Re: Are these “widow maker” wheels?

Yup, that is the RH. The friendship between Ford and Firestone gave us plenty of these to find service on. Stu

Re: Are these “widow maker” wheels?

This is the correct statement. Unfortunate for Ford guys most early bigger models (ton and 1.5 ton) have the RH, and 50s/60s era 3/4 and one tons have the RHP. Both have the solid/unbroken rings...

Re: Are these “widow maker” wheels?

Yup, I have one of these GM wheels that came to me on a donor truck. I’ve used it when rearranging the barn’s donor inventory and learned it the hard way. I guess a full set might work if a rear...

Re: Are these “widow maker” wheels?

After posting the above it hit me that there is a hiccup that would limit the use of these wheels. So I’ll add a qualifier. These wheels have a 4 5/8” center hole which won’t clear a stock Timken...

Re: Are these “widow maker” wheels?

These GMC/Chevy 3/4 and one ton wheels are much safer than the Ford widow maker 17s. If you look up the page to the posted Firestone rim chart, these wheels have the three piece Firestone “AR” rim...

BigstarATX also posted this to the FTE site with follow-up question. My reply is linked below. Stu

Re: Are these “widow maker” wheels?

The wheels pictured are absolutely the Firestone RH-5° widow makers.

What stopped the RH-5° was threat of government recall. The NHTSA and IIHS were well along with the recall effort when in...

Re: 1935 Ford Marmon Herrington

Well, those things don’t really matter, and are replaceable. What matters is the fact of it being a unicorn that’s been found and saved. What are your plans? Might be almost as hard to...

Re: 1935 Ford Marmon Herrington

Hmmm. Is the B for a bus? I understand the 6 (254), V (F-6) 5 (probably wheelbase), and 4, as you said, four single axle wheel sets. Stu

Re: 1935 Ford Marmon Herrington

You’ve certainly done your homework on the truck. The Marmon Heritage book is a great reference. Your next task might be to find the M-H maintenance and parts manual for the truck, or more likely a...

Re: 1935 Ford Marmon Herrington

Now I’m confused. The shift pattern data plate shows High/Neutral/Low ranges for a two speed t/c, and the pictured shift lever is positioned, as in later trucks, for the high/low range selection. ...

Re: 1935 Ford Marmon Herrington

We’d benefit from having Chuck drop by to comment. He did tell me, as you suggest, that the Fuller was the standard t/c during our trucks’ era (i.e. Korea), and that the Wisconsin was fitted on some...

Re: 1935 Ford Marmon Herrington

Interesting how similar it is to our trucks from a decade plus later. Owen - the data plate has the W as the final digit which says it has the Wisconsin t/c. Wonder what the B6V5 means in the model...

Re: marmon herrington F-1 trucks

Wow! A really early truck. Agree pictures, if you can figure out the posting process here, especially of the drive train underside to see how much changed/stayed the same over the decades. Stu

Not pickups? My Tonner MH Express has them, doubt they’d have been added later in life. Stu

Re: 50 f2 rims

Interesting to know that a wider 16” rim can be given enough offset to clear the drums. It’s only noticeable when comparing to your stock spare that would be the 17” x 4.33”. The new rims will have...

Re: 50 f2 rims

Agree, you might want to verify there’s a D in your Serial Number and not a Y. I might also ask in your truck has rear shock absorbers. A sure sign it’s an F-2, although they were a rare option on...

Re: 50 f2 rims

I texted some buddies and one of them has available 17.5s, so that fix is available if you want to look at it. I’ve mounted these wheels on a Lockheed 14” axle and know they fit. I can’t find the...

Re: 50 f2 rims

There’s an old FTE thread where we went through all this, but while I look for it, I’ll start by assuming you’ve tried 16s and found they don’t fit. Like Owen said, the F-2 should have 12” drums, so...

Re: Rare Wide Five Rim - 15 x 6?

If that was a question for me, sorry I don’t know except to repeat that they were listed as applying to 1936 to 1939 Commercials. The Green Bible doesn’t list them, and the LD6-4 M-H manual only...

Re: Rare Wide Five Rim - 15 x 6?

Not knowledge, a good reference library. I kinda doubt that KH would have the NWRA kit number on a wheel, especially since they never ever stamped their own part numbers into their wheels. Since my...

Re: Rare Wide Five Rim - 15 x 6?

That number is close, but wrong. A K28028 is a hub cap used by Olds and Pontiac. The correct number is K28025. Described as a 15” x 6” with wide five pattern and listed as used 1936 to 1939. And...

Re: Rare Wide Five Rim - 15 x 6?

To determine if it is a MH wheel a call to Chuck Mantiglia is in order. Plus he might have a line on others. Stu
