Open Car Top Availability

It’s time to put a new top on my Deluxe Roadster. Unfortunately, finding one is difficult at best. Everybody appears to have retired, or gone belly up. Who’s still making Model A tops? Any...

Re: Swaging brake drum studs

I would suggest getting someone with a larger press to swedge them. You really don’t want anything to go wrong there. If you were closer to Richmond, I would have you bring them over to our club,...

Re: Coronavirus vs "A" Drive

I'm one of those they who are most at risk, according to the talking heads (emphysema and asthma), so I'm not going to the store, or anywhere else. That said, my Roadster has been getting some...

Re: Rotor Position Question

Whatever lug the rotor is pointing to when the points open is going to receive the charge. I agree with Master a Cylinder, the only thing that matters is when the points open in relation to the...

Re: Lucas Aermore Exhaust Whistle

I bought one from one of the Model A parts houses a few years ago (I don't remember which one) that attaches to the back of the exhaust pipe.

Re: Original points vs V8 points ??

Ryan, I frequently drive my Model A's throughout the winter, when weather permits, but I remember that I used to place an oil soaked piece of paper between the contact point faces on my motorcycles...

Talking Re: Original points vs V8 points ??

I have no idea what metal it's made of. I always assumed (I know what that does to you and me) that it was pot metal (did aluminum exist in 1928?). I just did a magnet test on my spare and it's...

Re: This is the hobby in Russia

Love the jack stand, but I don't think I would get under it.

Re: Original points vs V8 points ??

I've seen more problems with the point block (not holding the adjustment screw tight, not staying tight against the upper plate, etc) than I have the points. I always carry a spare point block in my...

Re: Original points vs V8 points ??

I tried the "modern" plates in my Roadster and ran into the problem that the new points were junk, so I went back to the original ones. I have had original points close up on a trip (1,700 miles),...

Re: MARC National Tour vs Hurricane

I spoke with Jim Layman (the organizer) this afternoon. They are talking with National about postponing the tour until May. They will be making a decision tomorrow, but he told me that it was 90%...

Re: Crank start

I was at an Elementary School yesterday morning and was showing the kids now to crank start my Cabriolet, something I had never done before. Nobody was more surprised then me when it started on the...

Re: Beware

I have a Berg radiator in my Roadster (2011), and a BW in my Cabriolet (2015) and both are good products. While I agree that for the price we pay for either of them they should be right, sometimes...

Re: Checking for Spark Solo

Put the distributor end of the coil wire next to a head nut. With the ignition on, use a screwdriver to open the points without grounding them. You should jump a spark from the coil wire to the...

Does this look right?

Re: Resurrection

It's turning fast enough (remember you can start the car with the hand crank). Check for spark, and clean out the carb and fuel lines, make sure fuel is running through the line.

Re: International Model A Day

Old Dominion had cars at Field Day of the Past. I went yesterday, so I made my Cabriolet my daily driver today. Lots of people asked questions, and appeared to enjoy seeing it at the stores,...

Re: Words of wisdom for first "long" trip

When I go on a long trip (generally around 1,000 miles, or more) I carry a distributor that is timed for the car, a gasket set, basic tool set, including a torque wrench, spare water pump, oil,...
