I just use some very light oil - as I know once I fill up the banjo with gear lube, it will be immersed in it. Just don't forget to put the gear lube in! Have you checked the pre-load on the pinion...

Since you've come this far, why waste a set of head gaskets on it - when you really don't know the issue. If it was mine, I'd take it all the way down - being careful to label where all the parts go...

I try to stay within the spec . . . otherwise either the thrust surfaces of the rear main bearings are worn, or the crank thrust surfaces . . . or both.

Looks like a crack to me. You'll need to pull the motor down to sleeve it anyway, so I'd do a pressure test on the block - you'll then know for sure where the crack(s) are.

Yep - that would do it! Has had water in the cylinder for awhile - can see the rust pitting.

My guess is that you should be able to sleeve that one hole, put new rings on the piston and be good...

Very Nice! My very first early Ford was a 1934 Fourdoor sedan - my Uncle brought it out to SoCal from South Dakota and had it in the driveway on the morning of my 15th birthday.

The cluster you have is very serviceable - especially if somebody takes a high-speed die-grinder and polishes the tips of the teeth in question. It is easy to do and I've done it on quite a few used...

Yes, really not a big deal other than one extra water hole (on the passenger side of the block deck surface) that will need to be threaded and a plug put in.

You'll need to use 39-48 head...

From what I can tell by the pictures, I think you did just fine on this deal! All the spare parts add up (like the oil pan). Keep us posted after you have it cleaned up, magged and pressure tested!

If you give the blocks a very thorough inspection (especially in the valve transfer area) and they appear to be good, then it is really not a big deal putting new main caps on one - it is just a bit...
