Re: 62 Falcon V8 tranmission?

Been there, done that. My advice, step up and spend the money for a five speed. There are people on the internet who sell rebuilt World Class guts in a good case with an S10 shifter location. That...

Re: 1959 Hot Rod Annual MEL and FE Engines

Cubic inch displacement is what you get with a bore and stroke of certain dimensions. Down through the last 120 years, many different companies ended up with the same sized engines just by...

Re: Which 3-speed manual in a 61 galaxie?

For those of you younger dudes and dudesses who enjoy driving a stick, when the engine is warm, drive in first at engine idle. That speed is where you can pull it in to first by letting the clutch...

Re: 64 Galaxie w/manual steering hard to turn

In that era of time, Ford pioneered ball joints with no zerks as an easier car to maintain. Often, the ball joints had a plug. Remove the plug, install a zerk, and grease with a good quality moly...

Re: How to hold a Merc 312 down?

I put safety bolts in my motor mounts. Drill two 5/16 holes through each MM, install a grade eight bolt and nut finger tight. Loosen the nut one revolution, then double nut it very tight. Then if the...

Re: power steering

If I were to do it today, I would check in to an electric power steering unit. Info is available on the HAMB.

Re: Starting problem on 272 engine

Bucking and missing under load sounds more like a spark plug problem. After you get the timing sorted, try a new set of NGK plugs. They lasted for me better than any other brand.

Re: '57 312 Timing

Time the engine with a vacuum gauge. Drive it, if there is no ping, mark the damper at engine off for faster checks with a light. Re-read post six.

Re: Changing tire.

My 54 Vicky and 55 sedan both had problems with the right side. I carried a cheapy roll around floor jack, plywood to sit it on, and a bottle jack to jack the axle down when the body was up. This...

Re: TKO in 64 Galixy

A word of caution; anytime you mock up a five speed, bolt it up with no clutch and peek up inside with a mirror to check shaft length, and never pull the trans up to the bell with one of the four...

Re: Old newbe needs help

Kenz and Leslie used to be the go to people for Ford cars. If you seek them on the internet, some of the original people may still help. They did a lot of racing in the Denver area, Bonneville, and...

Re: Engine rough

If you 292 has the stock carburetor, it may have a leather accelerator pump. If so,remove the pump and work your fingers around it with some 30 wt engine oil to rejuvenate the leather. This can be...

Re: Quality parts

I have used a Pertonix for years with no problem. The car is now gone, but I would not hesitate to use those parts again. If the distributor is in good shape, go for it. Do not expect anyones...

Re: Best Practical Engine Swap

More advice from the local Y block lover. Go re-read post eleven. That guy has been around almost as long as me, I have never read poor advice from him. Speedway motors catalog needs to be handy....

Re: canister oil filter to spin on conversion nut removal

I had two rubber gaskets squeeze out before starting the engine. I bought a filter for a 54 Ford and it came with a fiber gasket, which I used dry.

Re: Tires

Thank you Blue Blood for helping me make an expensive decision. Last November I bought a nice old 64 F100. It has tires that look like new, but are in fact 12 years old. Because of this post, I will...

Re: Transmission Conversion?

I had a SROD overdrive behind a Y block in a 55 car. The ratios really suck. If you need to spend real money on a gearbox, step up to a T5 five speed. They are so nice, you will find it money well...

Re: Boot for shifter and Brake 1952 F-6

I had a choice unmolested F6. The shifter came out with no boot, but under the removable floor/trans cover was a big rubber ring, a bit bigger and the same shape as a toilet ring. The park brake had...

Re: 302 v8 Engine Question.

The 68 model heads may have smaller combustion chambers making more compression.
It is so easy to give a mild hop up when doing what you are, its a shame to not get free horse power. Mix and match...

Bruce has done a wonderful job for many years with this. He is very easy to work with, and has published several items of mine. I am no longer directly involved in Y blocks, but they will always be...

Re: front gravel pan paint

My 54 and 55 were silver. I painted them both body color, it makes the car look lower for some reason.
