Re: Overdrive cable sheath to tranny clip

Hey zoegrant, FYI: I don't know if you've replaced or removed the original clip yet, but for me, the clip and mounting bolt were much easier to access (in my '54 with the Borg Warner) with the...

Re: Filmed at the Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum

I also need to visit the Early Ford V-8 museum. Looks like a great place.

Thanks for posting this video! I now have a new favorite Bluegrass song! (I'm a former banjo player.)

Re: Tachometer

Hello again zoegrant. I've rec'd an email from westech. They said it will be as long as another 5 weeks before they send my 6 volt tach out. Just wanted to let you know in case you were waiting for...

Re: 1954 Ford overdrive control cable connection

OK, Kultulz, I found a partial answer to my question by reading further. In this reference, however, it's called the "REVERSE lockout switch."The book says:

"If your reverse lockout switch fails...

Re: 1954 Ford overdrive control cable connection

Thanks much for the diagrams, Kultulz. I have the solenoid off right now, so it would probably be a good opportunity to access that clamp and bolt.

One question: I bought the BW Overdrive...

Re: Tachometer

Hey zoegrant, I just ordered a 6 volt tach from westech and it was somewhere around $125 before shipping. I haven't received it yet (ordered it a couple of weeks ago) but if you can wait a few more...

Re: 1954 Ford overdrive control cable connection

UPDATE: Because of limited access (I presume), I was never able to find the mounting screw/bolt for that clamp. For anyone else who finds themselves in the same situation, the workable solution I...

Re: vibration in my car

Under power or coasting?

Do you feel it mostly in the steering wheel, or is it more audible?

1954 Ford overdrive control cable connection

I'm putting a new wiring harness on the O/D on the Ranch Wagon to complete the rewire project I did last winter. Also putting in a new kickdown switch, gas pedal and Overdrive control cable (The old...

Re: 1954 Ranch Wagon Parts ID

It appears from my '54 Ranch Wagon (which is mostly original around the firewall and under-dash area) that nut at the firewall threads to a long stud that goes down to support a bracket that not...

Re: Mustang Owners Museum

Thanks for the heads up on the cool museum, Marcus. That Mustang pickup is very impressive. Normally I don't go for thinks like that, but that one is so well done that I really like it. Genuinely...

Re: Y block temperature sender in right head

I put a mechanical gauge on my '54 y block to replace my electrical gauge which had stopped working. Best thing I ever did, as a modern mechanical gauge conveys more and better information to the...

Re: Unibody car on jack stands.

Thanks guys. I do have the shop manual, but can't find anything in it about leaving the car on jack stands. Don't know how long I'll have it on stands, but I'm guessing less than a day.

Unibody car on jack stands.

Haven't had had an old car with unibody construction til the '65 T Bird I bought last year. I need to get underneath to access the trans vacuum mo. valve. I presume the jack stands will go on the big...

Re: You-Tube - Australian 1960 Ford Falcon

Fascinating video. Thanks for posting. I couldn't stop watching. Even if early 60's Falcons and inline sixes aren't your thing, you'll enjoy this video. A real glimpse into car making. (I like...

Re: Rule of thumb for fan belt tightness

Thanks for the belt tension gauge pic, Kultulz. I've been meaning to get one of those, but didn't know what they looked like.

I've used 3/4" total lateral play slack as a standard on my '54....

Re: gasket N.O.S.

Wow, is that true on the gaskets. I ended up keeping some of the old gaskets when I rewired my '54 last winter. They looked like they were more up to the task than the replacements I bought. I regret...

Re: 1960 wagon west

This is good advice and very important. Gas tanks in old unrestored cars (especially from the era you're dealing with) are, IMO, "guilty until proven innocent."

Re: 6 volt generator light question

Okay, I went ahead and bought a new voltage regulator from NAPA and installed it today, and everything seems to be doing what it's supposed to be doing, as far as I can tell. The gen light goes off...

Re: 1960 wagon west

I have a full sized '61 Merc with a 352 two bbl auto, and the engine is probably up to the task, if in good condition. My car had 48k on it when I bought it and the cylinder compression ranged from...

Re: 6 volt generator light question

I tightened up the belt from about 1-1/8" slack to 3/4" slack, and - believe it or not - it seemed to help. I wouldn't have thought that small amount would make a difference, but it seems to. Where...

Re: 6 volt generator light question

No problem. I'll look in the manual again to see if I can find something.
