Re: Zinc anode for radiator

Dielectric action between dissimilar metals is a fact of physics. I won't go into the how's and why's of what happens other than mixing of steel and aluminum will promote deterioration/corrosion. You...

'71 Ford F-100 rims on '40 Ford

Stupid question, but going to ask anyway: Will 15" rims (don't recall width) from a '71 F-100 present any problems being used on a '40 passenger car? Offset issues or rubbing on suspension...

Re: 62 TBird Driverís Seat move back farther

I beg to differ, but I'm blatantly biased on this one, especially since Squarebirds.org is primarily a '58-'60 site:

Ford at one time did...

Re: Any SquareBird people out there?

No, but I want a white '59 convertible with turquoise/white interior to stable with my '63 Sports Roadster and the '63 white/turquoise hardtop I have owned for 40 years. I do have a few friends with...

Re: Original 40 kick panels

About time someone gave hints on this. Was always wondering how to replicate the ribbed pattern since repops don't have it. Now where's a source for the grained panels in the trunk for a tudor?...

Re: radial tires on a 55 car wheel (orig)

That pic of the Kelsey-Hayes wire wheel (or look-alike - I'm not going to bother counting spokes) reminds me of the tires on my '63 T-bird Sports Roadster - were about 28 years old when they 'let go'...

Got mine this morning. Just a few months late, considering December and January issues already received?

You do realize this should go in the 'Early V8' (1932-1953) discussion section, right?

Re: 1961 FE exaust manifolds and casting numbers.

Kultulz, I think you misinterpreted my comment. I went back and edited the original post to better explain as follows:

I really noticed this when researching the engineering casting numbers on...

Re: 1961 FE exaust manifolds and casting numbers.

Master Cross-Reference List (MXRL) between Ford M-E-L Parts & Accessory (P&A) and Engineering Numbers - Form FD-7425, July 1959 (Vol. 1.). This was a 'final' printing for Vol. 1. The MXRL Vol. 2...

Re: 1961 FE exaust manifolds and casting numbers.

The 'Circle-F' is the Cleveland Casting Foundry mark. The '9A L' in the raised oval with slotted screwhead impressions is the casting date, in this case 9=1959, A=January, L = 11th day of month, so...

Re: 1961 FE exaust manifolds and casting numbers.

BINGO! As others noted, typically there was a thin, stamped sheet metal heat shield installed between the head and manifold to help protect the plug wires, but many people mistake it for a gasket.

Re: 1961 FE exaust manifolds and casting numbers.

Off the top of my head the MPXR catalog was printed April of '59, and I've been attempting to collect loose-leaf MPCs going back into the late '50s-early '60s in search of change levels that others...

Re: 1961 FE exaust manifolds and casting numbers.

1 9 6 3 from what I've witnessed on T-bird 390 manifolds, as the C2SZ versions were flat for the flange-type pipes - I alluded to that in my previous post but wasn't specific about that fact. People...

Re: 1961 FE exaust manifolds and casting numbers.

Are the exhaust outlet flanges flat or tapered to use a 'donut' spacer/gasket? The C3SZ manifolds used the tapered/'donut' spacer while earlier ones typically were flat.

As for the engineering...

Bill: See if your friend can let you a copy the ID codes from that book for '50s Canadian Fords, especially the engine/model ones, and either post them here or share with an email. That will help add...

Re: VIN decoding

On second thought, maybe the VIN decodes such that a 2-digit code for the engine wasn't used in Canada for 1958, since if it was to follow the # of cylinders-engine code string it should have a '6'...

Ford of Canada 1958 VIN decoding - Engine Code?

Several items on the engine pictured suggest parts from a post-'66 FE, such as no surge tank and use of the thermostat retainer/radiator hose neck ('66-'67 and newer), the air cleaner ('67?) and the...
