Re: Removing Rust from the Block

My two cents. I was looking to remove rust from 1934 American Austin fenders. They are extremely thin to begin with, so blasting and/or grinding was out. Did some research and came up with a...

Re: 4100 Carb for 1957 312

First question: Which 4100 carb do you have? Is it a 1.08 or a 1.12. One of those numbers will be cast on the left side of the front venturi. The 1.08 is the smaller of the two and is 480 CFM and the...

Re: No oil pressure on fresh rebuild

What brand camshaft did you use? Just did a rebuild and had no oil pressure after awhile. Turned out it was the gear that is pressed on the rear of the cam for the oil pump. Did not have the proper...

Re: "Single plenum" 8ba intake

I agree with 34PKUP, that dual plan manifolds supply fuel to both banks. However, in doing research on the flathead manifold, all I could find was that the manifold was called an "over and under" and...

Re: "Single plenum" 8ba intake

In 34, Ford went with their newly designed over and under (dual plane) manifold and a Stromberg two barrel. This is was done to stop starving the end cylinders of fuel, by having each throat of the...

Re: I'm going to try to repair this fender

Wooden slappers and other wooden tools move more metal than you can imagine. Body hammers and dollies are needed as well, however, because they are metal they will stretch what you are trying to...

Re: I'm going to try to repair this fender

If you are going to try straightening, use a wooden slapper (hammer). Much more effective than even a body hammer, plus will keep stretching down to a minimum.

Re: What Model is This 56

Both of my two door Mainlines had stainless trim around the windshield and the back glass. My first one had the side trim of the Tudor "Business" Sedan and the second (which I still have) has the...

Re: What Model is This 56

Hey Dobie, I don't think it is a Mainline. I have had two and the brightwork does not go on to the front fender. On the door is a short piece that is about ten inches long.

Re: Lean MisFire

There are three circuits in a carburetor. Idle, transition and main jet. From what you are describing, the circuit involved is the transition circuit. Had a similar situation, only mine was running...

Re: 1936 car/ pickup vin question

If the serial number stamped on the frame, is not considered the "VIN" for Ford cars and commercial bodies from 1930(?) up, then what is considered the VIN?

Re: Identiy type of machine screw 46 woodie door handle

Make it from stainless steel bolt whose diameter is the same size as the head. Polish the stainless and you are all done.

Re: 49 ford clutch chatter

Depending on the quality of the new clutch disc, the "air gap" may not be sufficient. The air gap is the measurement between the friction disc(s) and the spring steel disc plate. If not large enough,...

Re: Voltmeter with a generator

When checking a generator, make sure the generator is up to "operating" temperature. It can make a difference.

Re: My 46 truck hates RPM

You need to check the point dwell on both sets of points. Must be correct for proper coil saturation.

Re: Changing Intakes and Carb

Just remember that just because you have two 1.08s or two 1.12 carbs, with slightly different numbers, that they are not necessarily the same. Ran a 1.08 on my 302 with 4 speed and it was great. Put...

Re: 1967 Mustang rear end gear ratio

Have a 260 with early C4. 3:25 gears are great for around town and on the highway, they are not too much. With new cars having 5 and 6 speed automatics, we think that any RPM over 1800 at 65 MPH is...
