Re: Leaking carb

The only product I could find to stop the same leak was the copper coat spray one uses to seal a head gasket. It can be also used on carb gaskets, hence, it works with gas.

Take the carb off of...

Re: 600w

I have used Chevron or Mobil 680 for the last 16 years. You will need to go to a commercial petroleum supplier to find it. I am on my second 5 gallon pail. It works very well in the transmission,...

Re: Toe-in Alignment tool

You will need rims that are true and have no wobble to be successful. Otherwise, you can get a false reading. I always find it best to use a marker that is stationary on the floor. Spin the tire...

Re: Installing tie rods without removing backing plate?

It can be done but it is a tight fit. You will be able to get a large screwdriver on the plug. The screwdriver will take up about 1/2 of the slot in the plug. Use one with a square shaft so you...

Re: Weird Question

X2 what Kurt said. Put the car in 3rd gear and release the ebrake. Put the timing pin in into the cam gear cover with your left hand and put pressure on it with your finger. Rock the front tire...

Re: Henry ford

Henry was not generous. He only doubled workers wages in an attempt to keep them from joining the UAW. Remember, Chrysler and GM signed labor contracts prior to Ford recognizing the UAW. Take a...

Re: Radiator Replacement

Last fall I installed a 4 row radiator from Bert's Model A Ford Center in Colorado. I just came back from the MAFCA Convention in Sparks. It was 95 degrees everyday. I took one long hill climb...

Re: Rear end oil leak

You might try this method. Take a rotary wire brush and put it into your drill motor. Clean the area where the torque tube mounts to the banjo using the wire brush. Take it down to the metal. Mix...

Re: puzzled

Take the alternator to an auto electric shop and have it bench tested. They will be able to diagnose your problem. It certainly could be you need a new regulator. If so, be sure to ask them to...

Re: Shell doesn't fit crank

Check for an aftermarket front motor mount. There some out there that will raise the engine out of range for the crank. A stock front mount will always line up.

Re: overdrive

I use 10-30W oil in my Laycock Overdrive. I fill it using a pump oil can. Takes a while but it works for me. Fill it until oil comes out of the fill hole.

FWIW, to ensure a good ground, I...

Re: Recommendations For Selling

I agree with all of the previous posts. I would recommend you advertise
your Model A in the MAFCA Restorer and their web site. You will be marketing to folks who are interested in buying a Model...

Re: Best oil to use?

I like 4 quart jug of Chevron "Delo 400" 15-40wt. It is an oil made for diesel engines. Many diesel engines have Babbitt bearings...

It is correct to say that the Model a engine has a 5 quart...

Re: easy front-end alignment

The string method can work ok if all of your rims are true with no run out. For me, the best method is as follows; use a sharpie pen and draw a center line on each of your front tires. This can be...

Re: Millennials decided on an "A"

I would recommend the Tudor. You can always move the drivers seat back a bit for more leg room if needed. Any Model A year will work well for you. I strongly suggest you buy the best A you can...

Re: Chasing the knock.

I agree with WHN. Clean out the pan and oil pump screen. Replace the timing gear. Start it up and see what happens. I had 2 fiber timing gears wear out and create a knock. I replaced the second...

Re: Removing timing gear nut

It is not advised to stuff a rag in the crank gear. Much better to clamp the timing gear. Use 2 slats of wood about 4 inches long and 2 "C" clamps. Clamp the timing gear by placing one slat on the...

Re: Snyders Brattons Radiators

Another radiator to consider is the 4 rows of tubes model from Bert's in Colorado. It is mandatory to run a thermostat with this radiator or your engine will not warm up. I have one in my coupe and...

Re: Babbiting contacts

Eric Barrett is located in Auburn, CA. Les Andrews, author of the "Red Book", informed me that Eric has done the Babbitt work on 40 blocks for him. Les speaks highly of Eric's work. Give Eric a...

Re: front cross member

It is best to find an original cross member. The repos do not always fit very well. Bert's should have one.

Re: Distributor Install Question

Drop the distributor through the head. Turn the upper distributor shaft until the distributor drops into place and is flush with the head. That's it, you're done!

Re: Body Leaning To One Side

Your body will lean if the center rear spring bolt with the square head is not seated into the cross member. Its a long shot but worth checking..

Re: trouble shooting

Be sure to check your fuel line. It should be just past the ferrules and not bottoming out in the sediment bowl or the carb. If the line is too far in it will impede the gas flow.
