Re: The Untouchables

Just a couple years ago there was a very nice original rust free 1962 Chevy at the local MACCO paint shop. It was getting painted and then was going to be smashed for a movie. Yes, it's sure a waste...

Re: Battery??

There's only 2 or 3 companies left in the U.S. still making car batteries. I've had good luck with all the 6 volt batteries I've used. Interstate, Fleet Farm, Deka, and Exide 6 volts all gave over 10...

Re: Evaporust/rust 911

It would be cheaper to have the frame sandblasted.

Re: 4:11 Rear end & No overdrive???

I wouldn't go to 4.11 unless you also add an overdrive.

Re: gas tank switch on a 1931 model A tudor

Exactly, and if you use the car once a month, then the valve will stay easy to turn.

Re: What is average highway speed for the model a?

Exactly!
Reaction time and stopping takes a hell of a lot longer at 70 MPH than at 50 MPH. Idiots drive to the limit and then some, never thinking about what could and often does go wrong.

Re: Water Pump

Buy new lead packing rings and the rear brass bushing with the double lip seal, and rebuild it yourself. Easy as can be, and there are threads about doing it.

Re: Modern post manufacture shock absorbers

Yes, if you have the truck empty. 200 pounds located at the rear of the box would help the ride.

Re: Toe-in Alignment tool

When the rear reading is taken, it should be 1/16" more than the front reading.

Re: coils question

Studebaker has oil filled coils mounted with the terminals down, and no oil leaks.

Re: Valve insert exhaust??

The block should be lightly rolled over the OD of the new seat. This one appears to have been done with a tool that gives it a smooth line all the way around. I never had that tool, and had to peen...

Re: Gilmore Model A Day

I found bargains and bought a lot of things I need and don't need. Besides the swap, you get to see all the great cars, motorcycles, motorbikes, radiator ornaments, and more in the museum buildings.

Re: Clutch does’t work.

Clutch engaged means the clutch pedal is all the way UP, and not down to the floor.
Disengaged clutch means pedal to the floor.
So far it sounds like you need to adjust the clutch pedal for 1" of...

Re: Frame year ID

It looks like the radiator mounting is dipped, which started in late 29.
1928-9 has round holes to mount the radiator, and 1930-1 has slotted.

Re: Change in Wiring - FSB 11/29 p.390

I have a slant pole with reversed polarity at the terminals, so I'd guess it was made during the transition period. Best to always check with a meter as suggested above.

Re: GAV replacement

When I heat the area of the stuck seat, I use a propane torch and only heat it enough so it might be a very dull red in a perfectly dark room, then I run cold water over it.
This usually works with...

Re: Voltage regulator

Actually I do make and sell my voltage regulators. I make 4 styles to fit all Model A and B generators. I have custom fit some to Stutz cars and Allis Chalmers tractors, though that takes lots of...

Re: head that won't budge

It can crack or deform the piston skirt, and might bend a rod if enough force is used.

Re: California Gas problem

I agree, and the corn crap can also make valves stick due to the sticky residue it leaves. MMO helps, and I always use it.
