Used the rope method before. Works good if you can't get it off after removing the head nuts and starting the engine.

I am a little confused. Your post says you set your generator at 8 to 10 V, I assume you mean volts. Then when you turn the lights on it goes to -8 volts.

Going to -8 volts would seem...

I agree with Purdy. $57.00 for a new set of valves is the way to go. I'd also change the guides and springs depending on what condition they are in.

Saw the pics of the aluminum radiator. With the all aluminum tanks this unit should last a long time since they usually fail at the tank connection ring to the core. Looks like a quality product.
