Re: 55 Customline Disc Advise

Having been down the road before, I'd grab some measurements now. I think the factory manual gives a height at the headlight, and I'd take one from the springs at rest. And after the spindle...

Re: 55 Customline Disc Advise

I've not done that so I only know what I've read. But I do know the stock wheels won't fit the Granada hubs. They need to be turned down to the early wheel center opening. If you've got...

Re: Wire Wheel Tires with Radisl tires

If you're talking about the "Thunderbird" wires with the spokes out by the bead, I've never seen anyone claim to be able to seal them. I drove those wires with radials and the proper tubes for...

Re: 1955 Ford F-600

We always like pictures, and you might add your location to the signature line.

What do you intend to do with the truck? Sunday/show driver, towing, etc. It all plays in to what advice you'll...

Re: I want a Automatic with overdrive in my T-Bird

Ken, If you've got the 3.31 gear, with the .67 o/d I found listed for the AOD that's equivalent to a 2.22 final drive. Even for a y block torque that's pretty tall. Be great in the Arizona desert...

Re: I want a Automatic with overdrive in my T-Bird

I haven't done it, or seen it done, so this is speculation. The tunnel on a 56 is a bit bigger than a 55 (for the T-85 behind the 312's) so you've probably got clearance. I also don't know is...

Re: Casco Thunderbird HO Water Pump

Excuse me going OT from the op.

I've got a tilt/tele wheel in my bird, made by ididit. There's more mods in mine, but the wheel is normally in just about the stock position. Changing the column...

Re: 1958 Ranch Wagon Front Disc Conversion

I don't know what " break the bank " is either, but have you thought about just a good rebuild on the drums? IIRC, those Ford wagons had 11"x2.5 front drums, and they were pretty well up to the job....

Re: 1950 Ford rear end

Having pulled a wagon rear end (Dana) and put it in a bird years ago I know the spring mounts are taller on the bird, lowering the car. I used 2" blocks to bring the bird back to stock height. ...

Re: 1955 F100 239 Carb/Dist Upgrade

Thanks for the explanation on the late (55) 239.

On the later distributor with a loadomatic carb. Ask over at yblocksforever. I think Ted Eaton had an article on that, but I can't remember if it...

Re: Edsel transmissions exchange

I don't know what interchanges, but this guy is looking to put a manual in place of the auto.

North Dakota, not exactly next door, but maybe a start? If it's a 57, I'm guessing a Fordo.

Re: 1955 F100 239 Carb/Dist Upgrade

When you know the count of the gear and the drive, please post it back. I'd kind of like to know which is correct.

Re: 1955 F100 239 Carb/Dist Upgrade

I'm not sure I'm reading the 2 above posts correctly, but I heard (or read) some time back that the 55 239 used the same cam, oil pump drive, and drive gear as the 272 and up yblocks It did not use...

Re: 1955 Country Squire Fordomatic Starter

I've used a lot of factory starters, and they're heavy and often tough to get out. Due to clearance problems, I've got one y block with a gear drive reduced size starter. I'd check the cables as...

Re: 1953/56 power steering

I'm inclined to agree with Dobie, but a little different reason. I went and looked at the mid 50's site. Most of the power kits are conversions to modern boxes (rebuilt Toyota), and the ram system...

Re: Schneider 258F Y Block Cam

If you put the spec's it would probably get some comments from people with similar cams.

Or go to John Mummert's site and compare to his cam listings and recommendations. I don't know who grinds...

Re: Got hoses hooked up wrong on power steering

I've had similar steering wheel movement from ram style systems from reversing the hoses. I had one that dumped all the fluid, but was ok when the hoses where reversed. It did the steering wheel...

Re: 55 Ford Ranch wagon Door latch Question

I don't know if the bird door plates are the same as the car/wagon, but I'd suspect so. Maybe 15 years ago I replaced all that on my 55 bird with parts from Larry's Thunderbird. They bolted right...

Re: 1956 Thunderbird brake question

Clearance on the battery isn't so much a problem, it's the hood latch. I've seen some automatic cars with the master moved over to where my clutch is, then the battery dealt with. I don't know...

Re: 1956 Thunderbird brake question

The vette power brake Master is 1.125", the manual master is 1.00" Thats the story right there, same as Don posted.

I've got a hydro boost unit (originally from a Diesel Oldsmobile IIRC) on my 55...

Re: Change Out from Ram, Control Valve? To?

Dave, I just "T'd" into the return line to the reservoir. It's a drain, no real pressure. Mine cuts the pressure to both the R&P and the hydro boost for the brakes.

If you can change the shims,...

Re: Change Out from Ram, Control Valve? To?

I can't help you with the pressure value, but I know the guys doing R&P conversions sometimes have to change springs/shims to get the pressure down and stop twitchy steering.

Heidts' also makes a...

Re: 55 ford Ranch Wagon Pinion Seal

If CG doesn't have your info, try Randy's worldwide. They're local to me, well respected, and often have the more obsolete parts others don't.

I've read that the Harley dealership will have a more modern switch that interchanges. Someone here will know the specifics.

Re: The Hurst Mystery Shifter

I didn't enter the contest, but in 1966 I bought one. I remember 2 stories about why it was called the "mystery shifter"

"It's a mystery how we made it so affordable"

"It's a mystery what gear...
