Re: Sticking Starter Switch

Okay, thanks. I will take the switch apart and see what I have. If not repairable where is the best place to get one?
I also found this past thread which really looks like it explains the problem....

Re: Sticking Starter Switch

Thanks for all the good input.

I will check the vent hole in the gas cap. I had just refueled the car before this started happening. The first 330 miles of break in I had no problems with the...

Re: Sticking Starter Switch

Tinkirk, kgbnut, I will check out the points and thanks for the heads up. I am also running 12v to most likely a 6v starter. It spins so fast it makes me a little crazy. Wish it were still a 6 volt...

Re: Sticking Starter Switch

Ken, I really don't know if the starter switch is a repro, most likely it is.

The car going dead all of a sudden started yesterday. It has run fine for the first 330 miles of break in, after I...

Re: Sticking Starter Switch

Okay, went out and tried to get the thing to run again. After several attempts it fired up when I was checking to see if I had spark. Shut it down and restarted. Car ran fine for maybe 5 minutes and...

Sticking Starter Switch

So today I took the new to me "restored" 30 Town Sedan for a drive. Trying to get some break in miles on the engine. Now up to 320 plus.
After 4 miles, the engine decided it was no longer going to...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Thanks everyone for all of your help. Looks like I will be calling Stipe and John Holland tomorrow and find out what I can do about either a new set, or rebuilds. If that goes nowhere, I will most...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Went and took a look again at all of the shocks. It now appears that the front right is on its way out too. Found all of the shocks to have no fluid in them.
Most likely they are all bad and I need...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Closed Cab, I was going to replace the front drivers shock with a reproduction original shock, not a tube shock.
I have read that people have used just about anything in their shocks over the years....

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Okay,
I think I will get myself an aftermarket shock from Snyders for the bad one on the drivers front. May not match, but may make the car more functional.
If there is no interference with the...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Rotorwrench, you are so right. I just need to take another step back and go over this car with a fine tooth comb. I've worked on bikes and cars that were older, and yes, things get turned around with...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Dan, thanks for the heads up. Below is a picture of my left side brake arm with the tubular shock link missing. Should this brake arm be on the right side? The two arms are different.
I will need to...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Okay, after some reading, there are several if not many versions of shocks that were produced by many companies.
Now, I am thinking, that maybe any shock that is reproduced, verses no shock, may be...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Went into town to take a closer look at the front left shock. After removing it from the car, I opened up the fill hole and found that there was no glycerin or oil in the chamber. The only thing I...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Thanks for everyone's input so far.
I am now thinking that this shock might be an aftermarket item.
I thought that the original Houdaille shocks had either a needle valve pointer for adjustment for...

Re: Houdaille Shock Problem

Ranchero,
Do you know why your one shock is frozen?
That might possibly be what happened to my shock also.
This car is new to me. It was so called restored over a 14 year period. All the other...

Houdaille Shock Problem

Went to replace a missing shock link on the front left after hitting a manhole cover. Found that my Houdaille shock would not move up or down. Too much resistance? Maybe I am too weak? Anyways, I...

Re: Mixture Control (GAV)

Thanks for everyone's input.
I took it all apart and I believe the problem was as John and Joe stated. There was either a burr or grit of dirt on the fuel adjusting needle threads that caused the...

Mixture Control (GAV)

Hi all,
My new to me 30 Town Sedan while driving yesterday had the mixture control park itself at what I believe is fully closed. I can not move the control from the closed position. It has a...

Re: How Many Model A Owners also Own a T?

Got my 26 Model T Touring about 14 years ago. Got my 1930 Model A Town Sedan last month. Hard to say which I like the best. Trying to iron out several issues with the A. The T is dialed in.
The T...

Re: Observation: sediment bowl seal

Happens to me all the time on several vehicles.
I replace the gasket with a new cork gasket anytime I take off a fuel bowl. If you don't, they usually end up leaking since the old cork has taken on...

Re: Engine Blow By or Not

I just purchased a 30 Town Sedan that had 2 miles on it. I have now put a little over 140 miles on it trying to break in the engine. I noticed that my return pipe also gets oil on it. One of the...

Re: '29 A Town Sedan, over heating

Just saw your post about having antifreeze in the vehicle. How long was the antifreeze in before cleaning everything out?
I have a Mercedes 230SL that had been sitting for over 15 years before I got...

Re: '29 A Town Sedan, over heating

You need to take a laser temperature gun and check the top core of the radiator and see what temperature your getting. Maybe somewhere between 150 to 200 degrees? After that, check the bottom core...

Re: Tubular Shock Link

Looked over everything in the suspension and steering and found that the castle nut on the pitman arm pinch bolt was backing out. This caused some slop in the steering.
The odd thing about it, my...
