Re: oil on floor under flywheel

If the front of the flywheel is wet, oil is leaking from the main seal or the aluminum bracket that holds it. If the rear of the flywheel is wet, the trans is leaking, the torque converter, or the...

Re: Help Quick Fuel SL450SV & Y Block 292

First, set the ignition timing with a vacuum gauge. More advance may help the flat spot. Then keep slowing the secondaries. In the US, we use a spring kit from Holley. It has a half dozen colored...

Re: 57 Ford model name

As I remember, it was simply a Fairlane 500 sedan. Less chrome, a cheapy. The Fairlane 500 was top of the line whatever body it was. My Grandpa had a six powered four door that year as a company car,...

Re: I notice my transmission leaking a little bit on the floor.

I have used Lucas auto trans leak repair in power steering units on more than one car. It works great for that, I have no doubt it would work for its intended use too.

Re: 55 Customline Disc Advise

Some folks forget the lower ball joint hole needs to be reamed with a tapered reamer. Most roundy round race shops can do it for a few bucks. Then; with Granada spindles, the turn stop wont line up....

Re: Cornhead grease and steering gear oil.

I used straight STP in my gear boxes. It did't leak out, and I could still turn the wheel in cool weather.

Re: Wire Wheel Tires with Radisl tires

I'll bet a years income the guy who wrote in Google that tubes in radial tires is a no-no is a young guy. Special radial tubes were used in heavy trucking for years in radials. I would recommend a...

Re: steering column install

Loosen the three bolts that hold the gearbox to the frame. Put the column in, put in the upper bearing and taper, and put the wheel on loose. Then when the gap between the wheel and the housing is...

Re: Re-pop Parts

For many underhood parts, stores don't have a computer book that goes back that far. Order parts for a 64 F100, it's usually the same part.

Re: 1953/56 power steering

If I were looking for P/S today, I would look in to the under dash electric units. They are small, light, and trouble free.

Re: Transmission change

If you truly enjoy driving the old car, and plan to put on some miles, step up to a five speed. Yes. they cost more, and require an adaptor, well worth the cost and work when you row through the...

Re: How do I adjust the play in my Steering?

One more tidbit I learned over the years; before tightening the nut, the book says to set the preload. Best to find a copy of the proper instructions for this. When I did all of the above, the lube...

Re: 79 Granada 6 cyl nengine noise

I had one 302 that would rattle like crazy when cold on one brand of motor oil, and another brand the motor was quiet all the time, even on very cold start up.

Re: 9" dif for 55 fairlane

I found the narrow 9 inch rear were seldom seen and very expensive. Another option is an 8.8 from a Ranger pickup, or an Explorer. The Ranger will need the perch cut off and welded on the bottom,...

Re: 1956 Thunderbird brake question

Part of the trouble is when the US redesigned brake shoes with less or no asbestos in the friction material, pedal pressure went way up. Now, many years latter, we seem to miss-remember how much...

Re: 292 oil pump

While you are down there and all dirty anyway, remove the big nut next to the oil in tube. Check the spring inside, and make sure the sliding part is free and clean. You may want to add two flat...

Re: Strange "Clanking Noise" at Idle

If the flex plate is good, try this. On a warm engine remove the fuel pump and start the engine, it will run for a minute or two. Listen fast. Fuel pumps have been known to make the noise you have.

Re: Change Out from Ram, Control Valve? To?

Try a relief spring from an Escort, then work your way up in car size until you like it. Remember, bring the car up to 1956 standards. Don't try to achieve 2020 standards.

Re: Finding original options / paperwork

In those days, each subassembly, (body, chassis, engine), came down the line with a teletype page stuck on with masking tape. The teletype had boxes filled in with options. If you can find the...

Re: 55 Customline Disc Swap?

As far as I know, any Granada has parts that will bolt on the 55. The lower hole of the spindle needs to be reamed with a tapered ream, and the hubs need to be turned down for the center hole of...

After dropping a number of wrenches down on top of the bell housing, I took my favorite 1/2 - 9/16 box and ran a shoe lace through the big end. Wrap it around your wrist twice and get to work. It was...
