Re: Steering Wheel coming off black

Clean the wheel some more. Mine was doing the same thing and I cleaned it and cleaned it again and finally no more black sticky mess.

Re: Oil change with external filter

No scientific basis, I have been going 2000 miles on a babbitt motor with conventional oil with a filter. The oil is still cleaner in appearance than before the filter was added and 500 miles.

Re: Model A cross-country migration

Please remember that oil changes are generally done at 500 miles, unless the car has been updated with an oil filter... then perhaps as much as 2000 miles.

Re: Model A Deluxe Roadster windhield wiper motor

No need to stay home when it rains, Rain-X is better then the wiper.

Re: Wolf Whistle

Does it have the brass piece insert in the bell, which is what makes the whistle sound?

Re: Henrietta rules

Our club rule is you get the rubber chicken when you 'break-down' and hold up the tour for 30 minutes or longer... less time the chicken is not awarded. You then keep the chicken until the next...

Re: Nu-rex Timing wrench

I too concur that it is a good tool to use to set everything as correct as necessary for a model A. As others have stated, once started, you will be changing the spark so it is a moot point as to...

Time to shop at the local model A parts swaps... I see those parts frequently at swap meets.

Re: New Tires

Gulf Oil Company is still alive and well in some areas of the country. I'm sure that the GULF tire was just a private label tire for those stations. I worked for Gulf Oil for a short time in one of...

Re: Waiting for AAA :)

It should be ready to start again after just a few minutes. Make sure the spark retard lever is all the way up and the throttle lever should be about half way down. Gas on at switch and the GAV...

Re: Sale price

Mick, Too much depends on the condition of the car to give a good estimate... but it could be anywhere from $5,000 to 15,000 depending on condition. I would say if it is in relatively good shape...

Re: 2018 Summer Swap In Chicago

I would say, unofficially that several hundred attend and there are probably three dozen vendors. ALL Model A and Model T only.... No hot rod stuff or socks.

Re: Carburetor identify

A group of us in the local club here all run the Marvel and like them. They seem to give a tad more high end performance, running better at 50-60 mph.

Re: Would leaving the ignition on cause damage to the coil?

As to what to do with your key when not driving, I hang mine on the throttle rod, as it is in the up position and the key ring slides on the nicely. The key is readily accessible from there.

Re: We'd like to meet other Model Aers

Not Model A, but I highly recommend that you take some time while in the Phoenix area to visit Ernie Adams, DWARF car maker. Check him out on youtube or his web site. He is about an hour south and...

Re: Throttle rod length?

It is easy to bend these with a box wrench... wrapped around the end... just use the wrench as a lever and they will bend relatively easily.

Re: Carby to manifold bolts

You can 'weld' up the holes using those aluminum type filler rods, using just a propane torch and then drill and re-thread the holes.

Re: Metal coupe or wooden wagon?

Our club chose to go the pre-made huckster body from Van Lente, Michigan. It was an easy install on a finished frame, using the coupe pillar from the original vehicle.

Re: Steering Column Adjustment

It depends on which steering box you have. Early boxes, seven tooth, cannot be adjusted in that respect. With two tooth, loosen the clamp bolt just above the gear box and rotate the outer sleeve...
