Re: My A Deere speedster

I don't see it as a issue either. We're all just curious. Myself, I know nothing about JD engines (or tractors) but I am still interested in your project. Would love to see some pictures of the...

Re: New to the Y Block

Check Mummert's site for info and numbers.

Personally I would have your Tach drive rebuilt even if you are not going to use it. Somebody may be willing to pay Big Bucks for an original T-Bird...

Re: Engine problem - maybe broken cam

Re: Steering Damper

That's not an entirely true statement. Numerous cars including VW and Porsche had steering dampers from the factory long before there were "off road desert racers" along with many high performance...

Re: Ares Stud Removal Tool +1

Believe it or not I broke one of those Bad Boys removing a stud from a Model A engine. Snap-on to boot. Skinned up my knuckles when it snapped.

Re: How to install a new ignition switch?

Re: Fuel line

I agree. The fuel line you get from the vendors come with the "shearing off" type that don't work. Snyder's sells the "correct" fittings separately...

Re: Black goop coming from head gasket

Probably goes without asking but have you re-torqued the head after running? I usually re-torque after a couple of heat cycles, then again after a couple more until things settle in.

Re: Tips for brake floater kit installation?

Well for certain your brakes have to be in tip top shape before you install FHT's kit. FHT's kit will NOT cure bad brakes!!

I can not comment on the down side as I never had any. My brakes had...

Re: napa fuel filter

I use the WIX 33039 filter, which is the WIX equivalent of the NAPA 3039, with 1 cork gasket on top of the glass bowl. I don't like the neoprene gasket.

A bad diode in the alternator will cause it to drain overnight. Oops, saw CW already mentioned this.

Re: Timing puzzle

I meant sideways play, as in if he had lose bushings, not rotational. Every time the shaft moves away from centerline the point gap would change. Every time the point gap changes, the timing changes.

And...
