Re: New to the Y Block

Lots of reasons not to take that offer! Worst case, they will lose it and send you a credit based on core charge for a everyday Ford distributor, not a tach drive one. Or they will return a...

Re: tell a Model A related story

Lucky to have made it on time.

I really don't know how Hal Roach Sr. could say '"cut to the chase in a silent film but maybe it was in print on the screen?...

Question Re: Engine problem - maybe broken cam

If a broken cam caused the front 2 cylinders to quit firing, what is operating the valves on the back 2 cylinders?!

Re: My A Deere speedster

The typical "Johnny Popper" was a horizontal engine, not vertical. The engine Rotorwrench was referencing was a vertical inline version, not transverse. I believe it was also an even firing engine,...

Re: H D truck engine sodium valves.

There may not always be pressure in the exhaust port. When the exhaust vale opens, a pulse of hot high pressure exhaust gas moves through the port into the manifold, followed naturally by a pulse of...

Re: H D truck engine sodium valves.

I don't have the specs at hand, but I would imagine that these sodium filled valves need extra guide clearance to handle all the extra heat carried up the stems under full load. The idea was to...

Re: Paxton and McCullough Superchargers

I see you had picked up a 292 to rebuild back in November of 2011. Is it completed, and if so, how does it run? How's the car coming along?

Re: Paxton and McCullough Superchargers

Throttle response off idle may not improve. At idle there will be no or very little boost, plus you have to lower the compression to run a supercharger. Therefore the engine will be 'softer' at off...

Re: Chandler- Grove 1 bbl #1-aa, Did Ford use this?

'32-'33 one barrel V8 carbs would be Detroit Lubricator brand. Not at all like you have here.

Re: Oil around spark plugs

Usually a sign of loose plugs or bad gaskets. Check the head surface where the plugs seat.

Re: 180 Degree Intake Manifold

Does it say how much to mill off the intake face to maintain manifold alignment?

Re: Start up w/o coolant, REALLY !

That is only doable when there's still some coolant left in the system, so you can mix the cold with the hot without (hopefully) doing damage. If the system has boiled dry, you will get a geyser of...

Re: 180 Degree Intake Manifold

I guess I've missed your goal for your project. Are you just having fun messing around with old out-dated technology, maybe fine tuning here and there to get a bit more power than they did in the...

Re: Start up w/o coolant, REALLY !

Plus you're likely to get shot! The risks far outweigh the rewards. Just like running your engine without coolant!

Re: 180 Degree Intake Manifold

Old school can be fun, no doubt about it. I, too, say go for it! But don't forget: A modern single four barrel intake with a modernized Holley carb will far outperform a log style intake using...

Re: 180 Degree Intake Manifold

Log manifolds are primitive, like log cabins! Technology has moved on. Most log manifolds (at least from back 'in the day' and home made) have abrupt 90 deg. bends instead of a smooth radius, which...

Re: Start up w/o coolant, REALLY !

Re: Installing new dual points

It will fit only one way so you won't get it out of time. Just make sure the tang on the shaft fits into the slot in the cam so the distributor is flush to the block before tightening the bolts!

Re: 56 crown vic glass top

If it was removed and filled in, there will be tell-tale signs of body work. Same if the whole top was cut off and replaced.

Re: 56 312 Coolant residue on rear main cap.

Quite possibly a head gasket weeping coolant into a back cylinder then leaking down past the rings and collecting on the cap bolt. I don't see evidence of an external leak, and if there were, how...
