Re: mercury us monarch

According to my book on Monarchs, they used Ford dashes in 1946-48. I don't know if that would be a problem or not but something you might want to check.

Re: Merc Awesome Sunset

Its actually Saskatchewan. And yes, I know of some that have much nicer cars that won't venture onto a gravel road.
Thanks PeteHoovie for blowing up my picture to a more visible size here. I've...

Re: Merc Awesome Sunset

Thanks Doug. I know the patina look is not for everybody but its my choice for this car and I'm happy with it. Its a driver so I don't worry about a stone chip or gravel road dust on a top quality...

Merc Awesome Sunset

Yet another awesome sunset here in Sask. last night. Stormy skies produced some remarkable colour combinations. I had to downsize this panoramic shot considerably to upload here. No photo shopping...

Re: A few questions on a 8BA

Just a guess but many of the old farm trcks/cars with flatheads were retired when they became just too hard to start. My 52 Merc for example. Finally refused to start in 1969 and was retired. When my...

Re: Exhaust Sound and Engine Temp

Thanks for checking it out. Chances are I'll be keeping it that way. Most of the exhaust is in good shape except the tail pipe going over the rear axle. Getting a bit thin with rust so if I ever have...

Re: Exhaust Sound and Engine Temp

I was surprised how much difference even the deflector made to the sound. The bumper already has significant dulling of the finish from exhaust. Even steel wool can't bring back the shine just above...

Exhaust Sound and Engine Temp

Some recent video I put together trying out some exhaust options on the 52 Merc. Then checking the engine temp with the infra red tester after a drive.

Re: It ain't pretty but no light comes through

Your welds look good in the photo. When I'm welding thin metal with the wire welder I'm reminded of the old saying, "if you can't be a good welder then you need to be a good grinder". :-) It...

Re: More Mercury Scenery

Funny, I was thinking the same thing driving through the long grass. Read a story about the prohibition era when bootleggers used to make some late night border crossings out in the country to get...

Re: More Mercury Scenery

Very true. We have to cover the radiators on our flatheads to get the engine temp up.

Re: More Mercury Scenery

I've never been to L.A. but pretty sure it is nothing like Sask. I drove at least 12 miles in that video yesterday over the course of an hour or more (including photo stops) and only saw three other...

Link to the video where you can ride along in the Merc and hear the sound of the flathead.

More Mercury Scenery

Great sky and sun made the crops look very scenic today so I didn't need much excuse to take the Merc out for a few photos and some video. Got some drone video to edit too one of these days. The crop...

Re: Where does your 53 Ford run?

The only time the temp ran that high on my 52 Merc was just before the radiator tank blew open on the top tank seam. And it was in winter! I had the radiator covered to bring the temp up to normal....

Re: 17 inch split rim replacment

Had a flat on the 49 Mercury M68 (one ton) when we wanted to haul it home. And they are the old split "widowmakers". Only option I had was a spare wheel and tire stored on the farm. It was from a...

Re: Fresh air bellows?!?1952 customline

I used a piece of inner tube from , I think, a small trailer tire. Possibly even a wheel barrow tire. It was a good enough fit for me. Easy to work with and the price was right.

Re: 8BA 12 V Starter?

I used 12 volts a few times to start my 52 Mercury. The original six volt starter sounded just fine and turned a lot faster than the 6 volt battery ever cranked it. I did not hear anything that...

Storm Watching In The Merc

It missed me but there was some impressive cloud and lightning to the South last night. Took a drive in the Merc to watch and take a few pictures and video.

Re: Evening Drive Video

Very nice Art. You have a real nice couple of Fords there. And workshop too. Nice change looking through a windshield that isn't pitted and stone chipped like most of mine.

Re: Evening Drive Video

Thats a nice little red truck Art. It would be an F47 here in Canada. Have you done any videos of it?

Re: Evening Drive Video

Hi Mart. I'm actually a little envious of your smooth pavement drives but I'd be lost when I came to one of those "roundabouts" you drive through. All I had to watch out for here was wildlife.

Evening Drive Video

Some video shot on the recent evening drive to town in the 52 Merc. Unfortunately I didn't get any "in town" shots so guess I'll have to make another trip for those. :-)

Re: Short Trip In The Merc

Those are pretty bright. I'm satisfied with the brightness of my original sealed beams but was wondering if my charge rate is a bit low as the ammeter showed discharge at idle with all the lights on....

Re: Short Trip In The Merc

Thanks very much Mart. If you ever read the fine print on our license plates it says "Land of living skies". I try to take advantage of that feature when I see the chance. I've actually got a bit of...
