I have no idea what was done at the factory, but considering the uncomfortable positions necessary to attach the vent and hose to the dash, my plan is to add some additional security via wrapped,...

That's helpful additional information. I did read somewhere the pickup defroster vents had a curve in them. I'm going to try the pair Kube has available. The 4" attachment hole span is correct....
