If the new shackle fits without a lot of looseness in old bushing,I would'nt bother to remove old bushing.As for the rear spring,he could have been badly injured-or worse.Re & re-ing the rear spring...

the round style dist cap with std plug wires is strictly after market.I would never use a modern style cap as the original type is one of the things that makes the A & B engines unique.

Put a short piece of pipe over the idler shaft,then get a bolt to match threads in shaft.Screw the nut up the bolt,and with a couple washers under nut,turn the nut down & it will pull the shaft out.

reverse the lines,use steel tubing & solder the elbow that goes in the side of filter & drill a 1/16" hole in it for a restrictor.The filter has nothing to do with the trans problem.

Don't the early flatheads have the drain-back tube on rear main,similar to the model A? If so,then perhaps it has unscrewed & is laying in the bottom of they pan.

A new well should come with all the measurements.Years ago,I installed a well in a 28 P U. I cut out the opening with a fine tooth blade in a sabre saw.

After you have fitted the largest insert that will not be too close to a cyl or block edge,then temporarily mount the cyl head with about 4 or5 nuts,then useing the head as a guide,use a 29/64" drill...
