Re: 600w

I haven't seen any red bottles for several years now. Do you know where you can find them?

Re: first oil change - which oil?

I totally agree with everything you said, and I kinda know what I am talking about, as I have been a pro mechanic for 50+ years. Although I am a newby on Model A's, Gas and oil is pretty much the...

Re: first oil change - which oil?

I use 15w40 oil like Rotella or similar, and it has plenty of zddp (if it even needs high zinc).
But then I am a newby to model A's also. But those who know have said that is a good, but not the...

Re: MAFCA TecTip - Lub Steering Gear

I believe corn head grease is close to 00 but may be slightly thicker, not sure. The 00 I use which is the same grease/oil that every Snapper dealer should have is also known as cotton picker...

Re: MAFCA TecTip - Lub Steering Gear

I put "00" grease in mine, and seems to work good.

Re: Fiction or Fact ?

I remember having a customer come in with an early Falcon with a stick, complaining that there was a problem, because every time she let out the clutch the engine died. Well, she had a chevy 6...

Re: New Tires

Five dollars is about right for what my local tire shop charges. To take a wheel off car, find the leak, dismount tire, put patch on inside, and remount and reinstall on car is $10

Re: New Tires

I am just curious---is the tread worn out on the old tires? The sidewall that I can see in the picture looks excellent. Not a crack in sight.

Re: HELP! I can't start my 28 roadster!

Have you used the car since you got it? If so, you must know the procedure to start it. Are you sure you are doing all the steps? I have forgot to turn on the switch on occasion, to the safety...

Re: Another rare eBay find!

One of my favorite things is the backwards door handle on the outside of the drivers door. This has to be one of the most messed up "stock" A's I have seen.

1964 Falcon Ranchero

I have a nice 64 Ranchero with 302 engine with 4 bbl carb and dual exhaust. Has the C-4 trans, but no A/C or P/S or P/B. The body is straight with no rust anywhere. Paint is a 10 footer, has a...

Re: Air Maze Oil

Any oil is better than no oil, but I would think that the special foam filter oil would be the best, as it is really clingy and would stick to the mesh better. Just my opinion.

Re: Sellers throwing away good parts

When we have a garage sale, the leftover stuff is either packed up for another sale, or if it has already been on 2 or 3 sales, and not sold it will be donated to Goodwill or Salvation Army. If it...

Re: 30 coupe engine number

So on the calculator it shows that there were numbers that start with an 8. I no longer have the car available to me to check if I can get the rest of the numbers, and it is not important, I was...

Re: 30 coupe engine number

Some of the numbers are really hard to read, but the first 3 are very plain, and it is most certainly an 8. Followed by 2 other plain numbers, which I don't now recall. Also, they are on a smooth...

30 coupe engine number

To start from the beginning, which will probably make this story to long, my neighbor lady told me her son in law had acquired a model A and was wondering if since I had one, if I would like to get...

Re: Testing spark plug wires

If I remember correctly spark plug wires should ave about 1000 ohms resistance per inch. Unless they are wire wires of course, then they should have essentially zero.

Re: marvel mystery oil

I put MMO in the gas in all my old cars and my OPE. But it didn't keep the A from vapor locking last week when it was really hot. Of course I also had an in line filter on it also. Yes it was a...

Re: R side directionals stay lit no blink..left ok

I would bet on a bad ground. I have found that the socket itself where it mounts to the light housing can lose its contact. Either front or rear will cause both not to flash.

Just a little note.

Being new to this forum, I have been browsing through all 1626 back pages. I just finished the last one. I sure learned a lot of stuff I didn't know about A's. I've been a mechanic for over 50...

Re: 1929 tire questions

I don't understand. If they have low miles, why are they going to be replaced soon, and why will they be the las set you buy. Are you saying they are good or bad?
