Like others on this forum, I;ve tried many things and never knew if they worked, Pete Raced so he knew if a mod worked. Putting an engine on a dyno like JWL did for all his mods told him what worked...

Re: flathead oil pressure?

Hi oil pressure can have an erosive affect on the crank and bearings. 10 lbs at idle and 40 in cruise os all you need. Another thing you should know, when running a hi viscosity oil, the opening of...

Jim, I know where you're coming from, although I don't have the health problems you have, at 87, I don't plan very far ahead. My helper Rob is building his first flathead at home with my help, but...

Re: Reusing head bolts.

I don't think a high quality bolt is necessary. A grade #5 would be more than adequate for this project, unless your going to exceed the yield strength of the bolt. At 45 ft/lbs, these would work...

Re: Bronze valve guides??

I knurell the stock guides. this keeps the stem well lubricated, yet prevents oil from contaminating The AF under hi Vacuum conditions. However Bary Here on the barn sells bonz lined guides.

Re: 2 bolt crab on a 21 stud question

You can also run a late style 49/53 dist with a gear drive adapter and the late front cover. However your cam protrudes out from the cam and the adapter must be clearanced or the cam ground down.....

Re: Tuesday Tech: Which valve to adjust? Mart's easy method.

My brain is so full of useless information, that there is no more room for more. When the valve is open, rotate crank one revolution and adjust it. works for any cam. Ya just have to be lazy to...

Re: Flathead Valve Guide Seals

Haven't used thise seals in 50 years. A thin film of RTV will seal them., and last longer. Remember the original split guides didn't have seals.

Re: CMM Crank in earlier engines
