Re: 255 merc excessive ring end-gap?

Frank: Contemporary thought, (I read a lot) seems to suggest the second ring gap should be larger?

Re: 1951 Ford overdrive

Laserman: I'm following this, too. Do you suppose that was just wear from a hard used transmission, or maybe started with a defect?

Re: Spark plug wires

I love that Brillman place. I've bought the 440 wire, all kinds of boots and clips from him. And 2/0 battery cable, cable ends, solder pellets, etc., etc. I like making my own stuff.

Re: 1951 8BA Cooling Capacity

Re: distributor questions

I'm always interested in these discussions because I want to experiment at some point. When I first came around here, completely new to these flatheads, my reading was beginning to suggest to me that...

Re: Cleaning the underbody with Purple Power

Either of those girl-in-a-red-tbird photos could be a fold-out in a classic car magazine.

Re: 52 Flathead rebuild

What Ron suggests is what I do, over and over again for years. So much nicer than golf or fishing. Still gotta buy a lot of parts, but machine shop bill is easy to pay.

Re: Memorial day, 2020

I always use this day to think a lot about Warren S. and Captain B. Each was my best friend for a time, and each died in the spring of 1971.

Eagle 4" 8BA Crank?

Since we been discussing Asian parts and tools: I saw these cranks for sale, less money than I would have figured. By the time you bought a decent Mercury crankshaft and had it ground, might be about...

Re: 48-52 Ford Pickup Clutch Linkage

I looked for a picture, can't find one. The equalizer shaft runs straight over to the frame, where that bracket with the round ball goes. In the outboard end of the shaft goes a spring and a cup...

Re: Jack recall, chinese junk from Harbor Freight

Today I pulled out my favorite adjustable (crescent type) wrench. One of my friends went to China way back before such a trip was common, and for souveneirs and gifts he bought tools. This wrench...

Re: Jack recall, chinese junk from Harbor Freight

Sometimes people forget that a lot of the stuff made in USA is junk now. The same greed dogs that sent so much industry to Asia don't allow people here to do their best anymore.

Re: Help with Identifying a part

She was just barely running and died in the middle of the lot.

I grew up on a big farm, they had me on a little tractor when I was about 6 years old. An old 8N, or maybe a Ferguson, with a harrow...

Re: Help with Identifying a part

I did that at the drive-in when I was 16. Right in front of everybody. Dam car backing across the parking lot with me hanging on to the headlight bar, trying to dig my heels in.

Re: Celebrate VE Day, 75th Anniversary today

My own father did North Africa and Italy. He was a mean, humorless, paranoid SOB for all the rest of his long life. Some years ago I decided I'd forgiven him for that.

Re: startup old engine

In my advancing age I've come to realize 4 years just ain't all that long. I just bypass the gas tank at first, fuel hose to a can. Crank some to circulate the oil then fire her up.

Dump any old...
