Try a plastic putty knife or something plastic and slide it under gasket. That may help loosen it or show you it has been sealed in.

I was there looking for a 1939 transmission, 3 speed top loader or just a 28 tooth cluster gear. Did not have any luck. Found a couple transmissions, but I was to late, they were already sold. ...

I put tubeless Cooper CS5 Grand Touring (front 205/60R16, rear 235/60R16) in place of the old bias ply tires. Gives car about a 2" rack. Used 3 ounces of beads in each tire, no wobble or vibration....
