Re: 1939 Sealed Beams

I like that original look too. I'm guessing mine was upgraded in the 1940s probably with the intention of seeing better at night. I don't know but just assume the sealed beams give brighter light...

Re: Fords in Fall 2020

Its all over here. We had our fall colours a month ago but the wild autumn winds have taken all the leaves down. I was lucky to get the Merc out for a photo shoot when they were at their best back in...

Re: 1939 Sealed Beams

I always liked the appearance of the sealed beam conversions better than the original Ford lights. I think I have enough parts to convert my 39 back to original style but not likely to do it.
Old...

Re: 1939 Sealed Beams

Looks like $12.95. I downsized the page a little to see if it will post here and still be readable.

1939 Sealed Beams

My 39 Deluxe has had sealed beam conversion headlights for longer than I have known it. No idea on their origin but it was interesting to find them in a 1952-53 Eatons mail order catalogue. For 37 to...

Re: 36 Can't Stop The Oil Pan Drain Plug Drip

I wouldn't even remove the pan. Just drain and clean it up good before applying the JB Weld. Although I've never had to use it on an oil pan I have patched gas tanks, radiators and a whole lot of...

Re: 36 Can't Stop The Oil Pan Drain Plug Drip

Teflon tape is a popular hydraulic thread sealant here and I've used it on oil pan plugs before.

Re: 1949 Ford State Police car

An interesting book on the subject is "Ford Police Cars" by Edwin J. Sanow. Although it says more about the 1950 and 51 Fords than the 49. By 50 and 51 the bigger Mercury engine was available in Ford...

Re: Fall 2020

Thank you very much. Those are maple trees in a hedge planted by my grandparents in the early days of their homesteading here. Its a favorite spot for photos. One from the other side.

Re: Fall 2020

One of a series of shots I took about a week ago while doing the Mercury video.

Re: The Merc In Autumn

Thanks for that kind offer Mark. I do have a spare off the 53 (non running) Merc that I have plans to rebuild at some point when I get around to it. But if you are looking to get rid of that teapot...

Re: The Merc In Autumn

Thanks Doug. I never get tired of driving and making videos of the old Merc. The Gopro "white edition" has given me years of good service. With suction mount or clamp I can set it pretty much...

The Merc In Autumn

I like to get a few photos of the Merc every autumn, plus some video. I managed to get a few minutes together showing the scenery here while driving the Merc. Yes, some will notice I still haven't...

Re: Moose And The Mercury

Its true and there are a few taken out of this area each hunting season.

Re: Moose And The Mercury

The old Merc is a lot more solid now since I've transplanted the good 53 fenders and hood on it. But I don't think it would have looked good after hitting one of those animals. Its a concern driving...

Re: 1953 Merc poverty caps

I've found various poverty caps fit my 52 Merc wheels. Currently running a pair of 53 Meteor caps on the front. A slightly newer Meteor cap on one rear wheel and a random old "moon disk" I found at...

Re: Moose And The Mercury

Its a mix of old and newer. When the power lines first came here in 1956 it was all overhead wires and of course transformers up on the yardlight poles in every farm yard. When this area switched to...

Re: Moose And The Mercury

Thanks, sure wish I'd had the Gopro on the dash to catch those few interesting seconds . The moose appear huge and dark. Good thing the old Merc's headlights work well and I saw them in time to avoid...

Moose And The Mercury

No, I didn't hit them but it was close. It gave me a chance to see just how good the old shoe and drum brakes are on the 52 Merc and they were well up to the task of slowing me down enough to avoid...

Re: Cornhead grease and steering gear oil.

JD corn head grease in several of my old vehicle steering boxes. The one on the 52 Merc still leaks a little even with the grease in it. Yet the steering is not slack.

Re: Sale in peirce, ne. 9/12/20

I thought I could see the fuel pump showing under the hood in that photo but its not easy to see. The hinges are worth a bit if they are not damaged beyond repair. A lot of damage on the rear...

Re: Sale in peirce, ne. 9/12/20

Yes, very interesting, but rough condition. This 52 Merc 2 door sold at $175.

Re: 1952 ford flathead AUTOMATIC

I have never had that happen on the 52 Merc automatic. It seems to lock pretty firm in park which is where I have it set whenever its not driving. The neutral start switch on mine was disconnected...

Re: Tires... Radial vs bias

I just tried it for a test. Normally I'll run them up around 30.

Re: Tires... Radial vs bias

Only complaint I have on radials on the 52 Merc is that they seem to be harder riding. Seems like I feel every pebble on the road. Even with the pressure down in the 20s and new shocks all around. I...
