Re: tail lite bulbs

Re: Shift Lever Drawing

The gearshift lever needs some protection against human contact. I find that when wearing short pants my leg often touches the lever, so the nickle plating eventually corrodes. Same goes for the...

Re: Drag Link Spring Compression?

I read in a catalog that the Teflon seats are thicker than the original steel parts, so special plugs are necessary. This may be the cause of your problem.

Re: Starter motor--question before I reinstall

Dyke's Automobile & Gasoline Engine Encyclopedia notes that the Model A's starter should normally turn at 1500 RPM drawing 175 Amps @ 6V, and produce a torque of 3 lbs-ft. Powering the starter with...

Re: Lightened Flywheel

The flywheel dampens the torsional impulses in the crankshaft from the power stroke, the compression stroke, acceleration and deceleration of the crankshaft's RPM (changes in momentum: Force x length...

Re: Port & Polish Engine

This video is for a single cylinder Flathead motor, but it is similar to the configuration of a cylinder in a Model "A" engine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-Li-mwjvlg

Re: Side mount spares - Left, Right, or Both?

Model "A" trucks were a mixture of parts from the year of manufacture and leftovers from the prior year. Typically trucks had one spare in a fender well.

Re: Swirled Glass Shift Knobs

I have seen advertisements of the 1920s and 1930s for the glass swirl shift knobs, so they are vintage accessories.

Re: assembling the Model A engine.

The last engine I overhauled had the main & rod bearings at 0.0015" to 0.002", pistons to cylinder walls at 0.002" to 0.003" and piston pins floating. With new rings fitted, the crankshaft in the...

Re: Manifold Gland Rings

The original purpose of the gland rings, that are used only in the exhaust ports, is to prevent burnout of the manifold gaskets. The rings expand, so they need to have 1/16th gap when installed. If...

Re: Model B motor

Yes, the Model B motor fits into the Model A using the Model A's engine mounts, but it requires a modification to an oil pan to fit the Model A's flywheel housing.
The oil pan choices are to rework...

Re: Ford model b waterpumps

The Model "B" water pump is a design similar to the Model "A" pump. It uses the same bearings, rear bushing and packing. Thus it has the same functional problems as the Model "A" pump does.

Re: Compression Test Results

Your compression numbers are horrible, so it's no wonder that engine lacks power. You need to correct the compression. Considering you have already run the engine, I doubt the piston rings are not...

Re: What Model "A" Book Do You Read the Most?

It's a tie between Bratton's Catalog, reprint of the Model "A" Ford section of Dyke's and service bulletins.
