Re: Suggestions on crud removal

A squirt of brake cleaner and a wipe will clean up the surfaces quite well enough after you scrape of the "lumpy bits".

Nifty looking car though.

Re: Source for epoxy-filled 6 volt coil ?

I've had a Pertronic coil fail on me before it was very old. Just another coil, IMO - no better than one made in China. Maybe they are. Hmmm.

Re: Oil Breather tube 20 inch flex tube

IMO, you will never notice any weakening of the mixture. I have done that for years and never even wondered whether that was happening. It helps with any rear main leak too.

Re: Help diagnosing engine knock

Any way to check the gudgeon pins without doing a full teardown?

I did mine by taking off the head and sump, then pushing the pistons and rods up through the bores and out the top so yes, you...

Re: Serious oil leak - rear main seal?

I agree with the two posts above and would add one comment. Make sure the dip stick is being fully inserted into the hole, not just to the end of the handle.
That could be the whole problem from the...

Re: Does your Model A overheat ?

I have had trouble with overheating but I can't get angry with the car.
On an outback trip, I was running 5.25X21 tyres with a 26% Mitchell O/D while towing about a one tonne (2,200 lbs) trailer in...

Re: 1929 tailpipe clamp picture

I was being driven nuts by the rattle back there so I decided to have a squizz at it early on in my A ownership. It was immediately obvious to me that if it were tight, it wouldn't allow the pipe to...

Re: 16" Wheels

I wish any of those sizes were available here. How does the rim width on 18" and 17" wheels compare to the 19"?

Re: Oil Breather tube 20 inch flex tube

You'll be able to stop the fumes coming in by opening the windscreen a little and closing the other windows, assuming you are in a closed car. Doing that gives a slight positive air pressure in the...

Re: 1930 Model A Gears Grind After New Clutch Install

If the gearbox is not properly supported in the time between the spline on the input shaft engaging the clutch plate and getting a few bolts in the bell housing, the clutch plate may be bent. If that...

Re: spark Advance

It's probably not intentional. I'd say someone forgot to advance the ignition but kept driving at fairly high speed - well, as fast as they could go with the timing that retarded. Maybe the GAV was...

Re: Patching Inner Tubes

Those "hot patches" have gone out of favour because they don't work on a synthetic tube, which they all are these days. They world very very well on rubber tubes but not appropriate for synthetic. As...

Re: lug nut removal

Yes, wheel nuts on wheel studs here too, just like manifold nuts on manifold studs. Strange!

Re: Patching Inner Tubes

If you're going to glue on a patch (the only way these days), there are two often overlooked and important things to bear in mind. Firstly, rough up the tube well where the glue will go and second,...

Re: Opinion on running Mixed match rear drums

It's not a matter of braking sooner - that can be adjusted. The cast drum has a higher co efficient of friction with the brake shoes that the steel one and so, will skid before the other one. Two...

Re: lug nut removal

Where does the term "lug nut" come from? They go on the wheel studs so LUG nut??? Not confused, just curious.

Re: Opinion on running Mixed match rear drums

In that case, definitely NO. You will get more braking with the cast drum than the steel one. I'm sure you would end up turned around so quickly, you'll end up looking at yourself. Using miss matched...

Here we go again! While it is true you drive on the right side of the road, we sit on the right side of the car and drive on the correct side of the road. Pass another beer, will you.:)

Re: Sound deadening? Anyone done it?

Dynamat in my '30 CCPU and '28 Tudor helped a lot, especially in the Tudor. I didn't bother in the Phaeton - couldn't see the point nor in my "barn find" Ute.

Re: Taillight bulbs

I forgot that you guys use the brake lights as indicators. That was banned here back in the mid 50s after Holden used them on one model only. When I drive over there, that is just one of the many...
