Re: Wanted '56 Ford-o-matic

Both of you are a little out of the area I normally travel. Are either of you willing to ship (at my expense, of course)? It may be less expensive to have it transported to Maryland, residential zip...

Re: Wanted '56 Ford-o-matic

Sorry, forgot to mention, my engine is a 292. It's original to the car.

Wanted '56 Ford-o-matic

I'm looking for a '56 Ford-o-matic transmission. Mine has given out, no one local that knows anything about it. Tried rebuilding myself, tired of pulling it out, putting it in only to not work....

Re: Scenic Route: Orlando to Fairfax Station, Virginia

I drove some of 301 in GA and SC not long ago (just outside Stateboro, GA to Allendale, SC). Light traffic and maintained pretty well, not a lot of bumps/potholes. Watch out for the small town cops!

Re: 35-36 Complete Rumble Seat Set Up

Re: 36 rumble conversion

Tom,

If you figure this out, I'd love to see pictures. I have a 3 window that was a trunk but my dad converted to rumble. He used the metal lid. What you are talking about seems interesting. I...

'56 Fordomatic

Sigh. After working on trying to rebuild my fordomatic, I am about to admit defeat. I went through the transmission, admittedly it was my first. I followed the shop manual and replaced every thrust...

Re: fordomatic linkage

Dominic, your pictures just showed me what I'm missing. I missed lining up the pin on the inside lever with the valve body. Sometimes, it's the most obvious things... Thanks for the replies and the...

Re: fordomatic linkage

Thanks for the reply. All of that is there, the linkage is complete, it just doesn't move anything inside the transmission. I guess a better question would be what causes the transmission to engage...

fordomatic linkage

I have completely rebuilt my fordomatic, but unfortunately I can't figure out the linkage. The outside part turns the inside part, but the inner part does not touch anything inside. Once the locking...

Re: What made you a "Ford" guy?

My old man was a Ford guy. He had a collection at one time that contained 13 Fords and 2 'off-breeds' (as he called them). They were a '55 Caddy convertible and a '67 Caddy convertible. Now, before...

Re: Fordomatic thrust washers

Thanks a million! I have a decent half of the thing left . I can try to measure that side of it and maybe sketch of what I think the other side looked like. I'll call tomorrow!!

Fordomatic thrust washers

Does anyone have a source for thrust washers for a '56 Fordomatic (small case)? I need the brass thrust washers that separate several sections of the transmission. Specifically, I need the secondary...

Re: 1936 flathead

If I'm correct, the number on the tranny is for the tranny only. I don't believe there were any marks on the engine that would indicate year. However, it looks a lot like the engine in my '36...

Re: Ford o matic fluid

Manual calls for type A. I have heard that was the predecessor to Dexron, I just want to be sure. What are the rest of you guys running? I've completely drained this thing (including the converter)...
