Re: rear end identification

Some say 41 because the 41 pickups used the 40 style axle.
I've never had one, but I believe 41 passenger cars were different (not sure).

Re: 49 Ford F1 project. What am I getting into?

If the trans is a 4 speed version of the T5 wouldn't it be worth swapping in a 5 speed version?

You will have to rephrase your comment re the clutch being reversed. We don't know what you mean or...

Re: 1939 ford V8-60 truck 3 speed transmission questions

Skid, I put later gears into one of those casings. I didn't try a 29 tooth cluster, though, so not sure if the case has that extra wiggle room at the front. What I can tell you, though, is the height...

The later one have a generally square appearance, the 37-41 are commonly called roundback.
Would it be correct to assume the later ones wear more slowly due to the longer bushes? (Everything else...

Re: 37 & up car steering gear pittman arm nut size?

Yup. 1-7/16. I picked up a used socket on UK ebay. Snap on 1/2" drive. It wasn't expensive as it is not a popular size.

Re: is it ok to run diluted antifreeze?

I run antifreeze/summer coolant and use it about 3:1 so it's 25/75 coolant/water. Tend to have mild winters here.

Re: 1936 Ford rearend gear ratio and speed

Engine revs isn't the only consideration.
Engine noise may be reduced but road noise, tyre noise, wind noise, road/tyre induced harshness (vibrations) will not be. You need to consider the brake...

Re: 33 Tranny to Driveshaft Oil Leak

Is the truck lowered or raked? That is what causes the axle to trans oil migration. Big and little tyres add to the effect.

Re: 32 Build Pt15: Master Cyl and lines. 59 Flatty Pt9: Boring. 41 pickup: Oil level

Thanks for the comments fellas. I can see some similarities, there, Glenn. That tool looks a bit less fiddly than mine.

Re: Clayborne engine overhaul stand attachments maybe available

One of the benefits is that you can arrange the deck face to be horizontal. This would be useful if you want to use a portable boring machine. Another benefit is that the engine is supported from...

Re: Identify this engine.

A Mercury crank has a 4" stroke, Ford has 3-3/4" so if you want more torque, the Merc crank is more desirable.

Re: Gear ratio on rearend

Divide 34 by 9 and what do you get?

3.78!

That's a reasonable set o gears.

Re: 11-A Distributor Thread Size

If you've stripped it, you could go 1/8 NPT and use an adaptor to get back to 3/16 tube.

Re: 11-A Distributor Thread Size

Rock, no, mate, I just went and checked, it is the fitting for a 3/16 tube, which is 3/8-24 UNF.

A 3/8-24 tap screws in nicely but a 1/8 NPT barely starts and goes tight straight away.

It was...

Re: For US '40 Coupe Folks....Some Serious "Shooby-Dooby Shu Bop"
