some of the older/external add-on XM radio's were 5 volt powered and there are aftermarket USB -> 5volt power input cables availble at amazon. I know there was also a vendor selling 6 volt AM...

G.M.'s solution looks slick and if I had the know-how that's what I would do. Sadly I don't have his know how and the people in my Lincoln club warned me I didn't want to go 12v or Negative ground...
