So whats it for?

1948 Mercury Hood Hinge Repair
Hi all,
has anyone had success in taking the wobble out of the hood hinge joint as I have marked on the pic.
I know that these are available repros, but I would like to see if heating those rivets...

Re: 1940 Ford clutch link
Here is a pic of my swap. Ignore the square bar chatter rod. We were mucking about with ideas.
No problems encountered . The swap of the clutch linkage in the gearbox was probably the most tedious....

Re: clam shell seal
Hi ,
I have used them on two of my vehicles ( 34 and 38 pickups) They worked well for me. Having said that ,I used the traditional seal in my 35 and did 10,000 miles in it without a leak. The cork...

Re: 10 spline pinion 34 v 35 difference?
To make a 35+ pinion fit into my 34 housing, I had the OD of the later pinion gear turned down. In other words the tell tale sign that you have an earlier pinion than 1935, is that it is smaller OD....

Re: Found On Road Dead
GB, I agree with Brian,
I had mine stumble a few times and die. Towed home and upon investigation found that the rotor had shorted. The spark was going straight through the top into the shaft. (...

Re: 33/34 rear end
Lawrie if you managed to find quality bearings to fit the 33 banjo, thats a good thing. When I rebuilt my 34 pickup rear it took some time to locate some quality early ones. The repros sold by most...

Re: Transmission Mount '47 Sedan
I have just done this on my 48 Mercury. I had to undo the wishbone and pack it down with a block of wood to gain access to the nuts holding the 6068 to the chassis. The heads are coach style so...

Re: FORD/MERCURY 1939-1948...Differences (Re-Boot)
Here is a photo of my 48 Mercury rear axle assembly. There does not appear to be any significant difference to the Ford ones.
My understanding is that the only differences are in the front length,...

Re: Driveshaft spline wear
I will just clarify my above statement re the parts I replaced. I did replace the ring and pinion but it was to go from a 3.78 to a 3.54, not because of damage. The bearings were stuffed and quality...

When I did my first driveshaft rebuild, I packed the clamshell, as I assembled things, with dark blue grease, it stayed in place easily and I was able to bolt everything up without it sagging and...

Driveshaft spline wear
Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone has tried this idea? (1948 Mercury)
The splines on the diff end of my solid driveshaft are worn so that the spline coupling is a bit sloppy. Getting another...

Hi Rob,
how do you get that stuff into a clamshell? Via a grease gun or is it too fluid?

Re: Vibration - rumble
Rob,
I had a similar experience in my 38 pickup. It turned out to be the bearing behind the speedo drive. This roller bearing just pealed off the hardening . It was a repo bearing. I subsequently...
