loosen the clamps as thought it may be a little hard to move.I would remove wheel then move as you can easily move back down for proper clearance

this is good idea I have done the same on relays if the points are not to badly pitted in that case I clean with a piece of emory cloth (fine)then spray brake cleaner to remove residue

I"ll be damned never would have thought from a distance.that steering box grease is very sticky as it is designed to be.knowing that now it probably would have just been a matter of pulling the wire...

as tool said you need to start with a good damper.it is like building a house with no foundation.if you have never seen the damage that a damper coming off.if it moved there is a reason.

I am pretty sure it was the spring no need to look for problems further just leads to confusion.he asked about pulling wire now.you need to pull from bottom (steering box)tie a string to your old one...
