Re: Model A won't start

They may have done you a favor by letting the old gas out though probably not a safe thing to do.

Re: Starter switch gasket

It doesn't insulate the starter switch housing since it screws into the starter so I think the purpose could be in case something went wrong with the internal moving part, in case it broke, it would...

Re: Misfire and backfire when hot

What did you last work on just before it started acting up? I know it has gotten worse but just wondering if some of the history might be a tip off for what direction to look. I had a new condenser...

Re: connect the capacitor outside

Condensers are near the points in distributors for decades because they perform best at that location otherwise they would have put them on the firewall to start with, just like the coil.

Re: Zenith Carburetor linkage sticking and stiff

Could be the body is not on exactly right, high/low or left/right. I am working on an off road A with a model T cowl, the least little movement in the cowl will throw the choke rod out of alignment...

Re: No Spark

I would suspect the new parts. I had a new condenser from NAPA fail with just a few miles on it, I checked everything and thought it couldn't be the new condenser.

Re: oil level

They had 3 different oil pans and 2 different dip sticks that I know of so there could be some mis-matching but I can't figure how it could be that different from one to another.

Re: 28 Dash light intermittent operation

It isn't very complicated, just old. Do you know if it has the correct bulb in it? If it is getting too hot, a smaller bulb strength could be used, it depends on if you use 6v or 12v. It also depends...

Re: Need Help in Identifying Location of Short

Over the years when I would find a survivor car, very few times was the original switch and cable in use, they seem to have been a weak point in the model A, just like the fan blade.

Re: cowl

I see them in this part of the country for $300 on up. Here is one that has doors and upper parts, seems expensive to me. Of course I couldn't find one and had to use a 26 model T cowl for my...

Re: Clam Shell question .

The clam shells have at least 2 different bolt patterns, you may have the earlier one if the gasket doesn't line up.

Re: Who Lives near Roanoke, VA?

Hi;
I live off of Brick Church Road between Boones Mill and Rocky Mount.

You may want to check but I heard that the Festival in October has already been cancelled, guess they panicked, but...

Re: Need Help in Identifying Location of Short

Do you have the armored cable that screws into the distributor, looks like a big spring? A couple things to check if that is what you have, first and easy to check is where it screws into the...

Re: A Piece of Advice

My torque wrench was messed up, finally figured it out after I pulled a stud out of the block. Took it to my mechanic and he compared it to his and I was trying to torque to 125. Got a new one and...

Re: Model A Working in 2020

Nice! I am in the process of building a kind of truck from parts to cut wood with and haul brush. Using a 28 motor with multi disk clutch but the other parts are later A and a 26 cowl, the bed will...

Re: Who Lives near Roanoke, VA?

There are a few Model A's around Franklin County but I don't see them out much but then I am not out much either, just work on them and drive them around on the farm roads. I am building one from...

Re: Engine diagnosis?

The quickest thing to check would be to look at the points and make sure they are opening and look clean. Next I would suspect something related, so I would unscrew the fuel line at the carb and see...

Re: Distributor stuck

Glad you got it fixed, it pays to take your time as I broke one off once and had to drive it out of the head. If you ever want to take the side cover off and see how the shaft and cam gear come out,...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Really nice car, try and keep it as original as you can since it hasn't been restored, it has that original look to it!

Re: Distributor stuck

Since you have the locking screw out, use some penetrating oil such as PB blaster to spray lots back in through that hole to the distributor shaft. After it sits awhile, use a phillips screw driver...

Re: All lights on 1 switch question

At this point he could put a fuse box in that uses modern tab fuses and make different circuits so that one fail doesn't kill the whole system. I am building an off road truck and plan on something...
