For best results use new old stock lamps as the repro ones do not have the correct filament alignment to focus the beam.

One of the benefits of modern oils is the detergents that keep dirt in suspension until removed by the filter. But with no filter I would run non detergent oil and change more often.

You need the right type of light bulb, you need a gas filled neon lamp connected to the spark plug and it will blink if you have spark.
