I too was in the needs zinc crowd. Modern flat lifter engines do need a zinc additive like the jeep 4.0 and chevette 1.6. Model a days oil didnt have zinc and the valve springs are nowhere stout...

i dunno black is kinda well black - it would be very hard to dye it red that wont just come off. They do make paint specifically for vinyl and rubber...Worked wonders on some blue sun visors i needed...

also be aware some alternator pullies are installed backwards throwing the belt alignment off. If you look at an alt pulley from the side (perpendicular to shaft)theres a "fat side" and "narrow"...

I plan to go again to roam around towing my cart (boulder) functioning on nothing but beer and fried cheese curds lol - maybe no hail storm this year! One can only hope haha. FYI bring a pocket full...

when you rebuilt the gearbox did you knock the ridge off from the gears? over the years of people clashing gears they get "upset" at the mating ends so the teeth arent flat( square) and can cause...

Awesome good to know - fyi id still get a vacuum gauge and look up below what different readings show. It would have shown a blocked (chocked) exhaust in a few seconds.
