Re: Replacing a carburetor

Just be careful tightening the two bolts from the carb to the intake manifold. Too tight and the manifold breaks.

Re: weight of the Model A engine block?

That is the way I do it. It works well. Don't put all the weight on one rafter.

Re: Spark advance range

Brambleworth, Full advance on a Model A is actually only 20 degrees. Later engines, like a small block Chevy V8, can run at 34 to 36 degrees full advance. I would guess that the Model A requires less...

Re: Transmission Full of Grease - Now What!

I warmed up my transmission with a heat gun before draining it. I believe that helps the grease run out better.

Re: ever wanted to choke a body man?

Ross, I'm sorry too. I am so not amused. Don't hold your breath waiting for me to comment when someone with a legitimate post (unlike this one) asks for some advice on painting or body work. Good bye

Re: ever wanted to choke a body man?

Go ahead, badmouth the bodyman. It sounds like some miscommunication to me. The body shop is a thankless job. I was in the industry for many years, body, frame & paint, insurance adjuster, body shop...

Re: Motor Vibration

Make sure your engine, transmission, and torque tube are properly lined up. Mine was a little off when I got the car.. I made some adjustments and my car goes down the road with much less vibration...

Re: Model A cost in today's $$$

Today's cars are disposable and end up in the scrap pile after 5 or 10 years. My Model A is 83 years old and still going. That's priceless.

Re: trailering model A

I don't think the Model A will pull the trailer very well, especially up hills. :^)

Re: License plates

I have a nice rusty 1930 North Carolina plate on my coupe. I like them that way.

Re: Will driving at 55 mph for several miles cause a Model A to overheat?

Mitch makes a good point. I bought my car this past December, and the former owner "drove it every day". I went right to work on it, checking everything. I put the car on jack stands to adjust the...

Re: Old historical photo, what is the vehicle?

It looks like a 1938 Datsun to me, possibly a Model 17 sedan. Look close at the grille.

Re: Repop Cowl band

Additionally, what kind of project is it to install a new cowl band? The objective is to improve the looks of my A.....not to teach my Rat Terrier bad language!

Re: Double Clutching

I only double clutch when downshifting. Normal driving, I shift like duffer says. I wind it up to a reasonable rpm, then ease the shifter into the next gear. When I move to shifter somewhat slowly,...

Re: I just keep ruining stuff....two steps forward, one step back.

Steve,
I got my latest Model A in December, 2012. I replaced the water pump about two months ago. I had read about the water neck problems, so I did not mess with it. It does not leak. I posted a...

Re: New Restoration or Older Restoration ?

The only thing that counts is: what exactly is the condition of the vehicle at this time? There are too many variables with restorations. Some are amateur. Some are professional. How well was the...

Re: I just keep ruining stuff....two steps forward, one step back.

Matt,
You are not alone. I am very good at working on cars. However, every time I fix something on my car, (water pump, wheel bearing, brakes...) it turns into more than I had bargained for. It is...

Re: Short or something electrical

Tyler,
If you are learning, and even if you are an expert, sometimes it is better to "fix" one thing at a time and test the car as you go. That way , if something goes wrong, you can go back to the...

Re: Footrest question

Don't stab your finger trying to push it in! Drill a hole into a piece of wood, so you have something to hold the metal piece.

Re: Bad repro parts from Mac's

I am absolutely done with Mac's. If they were the last people on earth with parts, I would make my own before I ever spent another penny with them. Their customer service is ZERO, and I'm doing my...
