Re: Interesting read in Hemmings about restoration costs.

I'm sure that I am reiterating what has been said, but many car people have no idea what goes into paint and restoration. It's not hours. It's months or even a year on one vehicle, but they think...

Re: Did the 31 cutout have Ford script

Per page 2-9 Judging standards. Looks like Ford script restored in Nov. 1930, and ran until end of production.

Re: Who Remembers Model "A" Parts in the Sears Catalog?

Engine # and photo of engine. Stamped block #does not match title #. The star is present, before and after, but faint. Color is more or less Ford engine green. Unfortunately, that's all I can...

Re: Who Remembers Model "A" Parts in the Sears Catalog?

Terry: You are right. Didn't notice the date. Must have been purchased in 59. I bought the car 20 years ago from an elderly seller who told me he restored it in 58, but was probably 59.

Re: Who Remembers Model "A" Parts in the Sears Catalog?

This Sears engine rebuild tag was on the firewall of our 30 roadster that was restored in 1958, so I assume this engine was purchased in 1958 from Sears. Notice that all the rebuild specs are...

Re: Removed engine; some improvements?

Good time to inspect the starter ring gear on the flywheel.

Re: '28 Phaeton is reborn

Since you are at the bare frame stage, if you haven't already done so, stretch a string across both frame rails to check for straightness. Frame sag is common. Doors and hood will fit much better...

Re: 1930 Model A Tudor Value?

Is that rusty coolant stains on the firewall from a leaky water pump?

Re: Gear ratio

I installed a Mitchel 26% overdrive last summer in our Tudor and am very happy. Best of both worlds. Overdrive for country driving and standard drive around town. 3.78 rear end ratio. Stock engine...

Re: Used zenith carbs number one and 2

As always, value depends on condition. How rusty and cruddy? Are the internal passageways lugged? Does the throttle butterfly bushings leak air from wear? The earlier Zeniths had a brass GAV that...

Re: Generator Motoring / Cutout sticking

OK. That makes sense. We keep our belts fairly loose on Model A's. Thanks for clarifying. Glad you got another cutout that worked.

Re: Cold Weather Operation

My uncle Walt bought a 29 Special Coupe new. Come Thanksgiving day here in Southern WI., it turned real cold, and nobody's car would start except for Walt's coupe. So Walt got the job of fetching...

Re: Generator Motoring / Cutout sticking

Seth: I didn't know that a generator could "motor" when connected to the fan belt, the fan belt would keep the generator from turning after shutdown. A stuck cut out would show a big discharge on...

Re: repro exhaust manifold

I've installed two or three repro exhaust manifolds and have had no problems with gland rings.
All the old original manifolds I have, including a late 31 with the extra web have drooped and won't...

Re: New To The Model A Forum

Welcome and lovely car you have there. One of the colors listed for 1930 Town Sedans is maroon. Is this a possibility for what color your car is? I looked it up in the 3rd edition of the Model A...

Re: Front Fender Brackets

.What do you mean when you say 'early' 30? Are you referring to the 28/29 style?
03marauderman is online now Report Post

No. The early 1930 brackets were forged, like the 1928 brackets. ...

Re: Front Fender Brackets

No, the distance between the frame and headlight mounting holes is much longer on the 30-31 front fender brackets. In the first photo, the black bracket is a forged 28. The dirty grey one is an...

Smile Re: Model A Fords to be with us for a LONG time yet

I drove our Model A to a car show this past August, all hot rods, basically. When I left and drove down the line up, I retarded the spark and ran at a very slow idle. Those gearheads stopped...

Re: Why did my axle break?

If I want to check the torque on those axle nuts, do I need to remove the wheel or can I just remove the hub cap? May be a stupid question, but I'm having trouble visualizing it.

Re: Gurgling

Our Model T gurgles after a run on a hot day, after shutdown. I figured it was continuing to thermo syphon. Normal for a T. Your A may be doing the same thing?

Re: Why did my axle break?

The rear axle broke a year ago on our 28 Tudor. Same place as yours. I think the axle nut was tight, but it still broke. Just check your axle nut torque from time to time and hope for the best. ...

Re: 30/31 roadster windshield "snaps"?

Open car windshield snaps install with a "friction" fit. You can pry them out with a screwdriver.
