Not too "crazy". I don't have access to any sand blasting equipment so just keen to know the best alternative to remove surface oxidation, dirt & grime and what detergent to use prior to etch...

Re: 7RT Carburetor

Thanks everyone. Looks like a carby rebuild. Any suggestions where to buy a good rebuild kit including replacement throttle shaft?

Re: 7RT Carburetor

Could anyone explain how a worn throttle shaft would affect the the tuning on a 7RT/94 carb? Plugs and exhaust always appear sooty black.

Re: 7RT Carburetor

Ok, so the internals are the same except for the air horn which will accommodate an oil bath type air filter?

7RT Carburetor

Hi Folks,

Is there anything special about a 7RT Carburetor and why are they used mainly on pickup trucks? Is it a power or economy carburetor?

Re: engine number . . . or serial number?

The 8BA engine is Mercury built with a serial number stamped on the Top Right Rear part of the engine block where the intake manifold bolts on. This number is completely different to the other...

Re: engine number . . . or serial number?

Great article Coop.
The numbers on our '48 M47 Pickup all match on the 3 speed box, left front chassis rail and tag on firewall. But however the engine stamp (with a star at the end) does not match...

Re: 1948 Mercury M47 - Engine casting No. C1BA

It seems, judging by your posts, that it is very unlikely that our current engine is the original engine. Thanks for responding.

Re: 1948 Mercury M47 - Engine casting No. C1BA

So would our C1BA engine originally be installed in a car rather than a pickup? The heads are iron and have "8BA" & "Made in Canada" cast on them.

1948 Mercury M47 - Engine casting No. C1BA

Flathead historians:

Our '48 Mercury M47 pickup has an engine casting No. C1BA. Should it not be a C8BA engine, if it were the original engine, of the same manufacturing year as the pickup?
