Re: Generator Charging

? -
Charge rate (current) varies with voltage, which varies with generator rpm.
Regulator limits voltage to a given level.

Re: Generator Charging

1931 should have the coil connected directly to the generator at the firewall so the ammeter reads only battery current. The ammeter will read 0 until the cutout closes, after which you should...

Re: How to identify the year without the Vin??

Engine number should agree with the year -

https://www.mafca.com/data_eng_production.html

Your VIN may be a state assigned one, but they usually start with the state abbreviation.

Re: Distribution block for 6 volt

Fuse blocks work at any voltage up to the insulation rating. The thing to be concerned with is current capacity, which implies heat rating.

Re: Anyone using a horn relay

Much the same as the one I got from Snyder's. 12V needs a 12V relay - the 6V will probably work with short bursts, just won't last as long.

The relay winding requires much less current through...

Re: 6v Alternator

Either way interrupts the current path. With the switch open, the only way you get a short is directly across the battery posts. Placed on the hot side the switch exposes more bare metal to the...

Re: 6v Alternator

Install the switch between the frame and whichever battery post should be grounded.

Re: Question on power to the light / horn switch

I ran a ground wire between the light conduit to the forward hood latch screw on each side. Attach tinned wire end to conduit with a hose clamp, #10 lug on the frame. Eliminates problematic...

Re: Headlight Focus Procedure

Center height of headlamps for 28-29 is 37-5/8", 30-31 is 38-11/16", which accounts for some of the difference. Also H-type and TwoLite use different bulbs, as 1930 coupe says.

Re: Convert to 12 Volt ?

Rather a hassle to change over - replace battery, coil, all the light bulbs. Rewind or add a resistor to horn and wiper motor, if present. Starter fields should be redone as well. Only thing wrong...

Re: Bad generator?

FSB differences reflect the generator changes. The 1928 Powerhouse had a higher power output than the later long-nose and short-nose generators. The notes also don't state how/where the measurement...

Re: Dash Light Bulb Changeout

G6/BA15S is the key for sizing. I'd get the warm white 3000K; 6000k is too bright white for me.
And yes, looks like the right one.

Re: Dash Light Bulb Changeout

Twist and pull the cover off. There's a groove that lines up with a bump on the cover letting it pull off easily. Worst case force it off, won't damage it, really.

Re: What is the best Diode cutout

That one is for Model T, which is negative ground.

http://www.funprojects.com/products/10505r.aspx

is what you want. Their other page shows it's been out of stock forever, but give it a try.

Re: Door striker plate screws on coupe

I replaced those screws on my 30 Coupe, don't remember why. IIRC, a movable threaded plate is captive behind the jamb. Replace one at a time to keep the same adjustmemt.

Re: Hot water heater will not fit

There's a kit to cut and splice the floorboard so you can change the battery without removing the whole board. Would be a good idea here I think.

Re: Cleaning Silvered Plated Lamp Reflectors

The instruction book says to polish the reflectors with lamp black and a soft cloth, as I recall.

Re: Cleaning Silvered Plated Lamp Reflectors

Lamp black/carbon black is basically plain old chimney soot. Pure carbon powder, probably sold by chemical suppliers.

Re: Four-Ways Work, Turn Signals Don't !!!

A 6 ohm resistor should pull 1 amp, which should activate a thermal flasher, but 3 ohms/2A would make it more certain. Try paralleling the 2 6 ohms on one side and see if that side works.

I...

Re: Title goes with Frame or Engine?

I suspect it is most places. So - rightfully the title should be retired. It shouldn't go with either bag of parts.

Re: using a 12 volt system with the 6 volt horn

Definitely from Snyder's, but I don't find the link either. I'll see if I can find the receipt.

Re: Title goes with Frame or Engine?

Possibly sell title to higher bidder, but rightfully should be retired. As aermotor says, they're both parts, which are untitled.
