Re: What spark plugs are you currently using?

Motorcraft TT10 for me. They run well but sure don’t look like the 3x’s.

Re: Cold Weather Operation

I drove mine a couple times last winter when it was around 10-15 degrees. Covered the radiator halfway with cardboard and bundled up, I have no heater. Starting was fine, just took a little more...

Re: repro exhaust manifold

I don't have personal experience with them but have heard they are good quality. If you do get a new manifold you'll have to get it planed with your intake manifold to even the surfaces. You could...

Re: Carb Rebuild

I have a gallon of Berrymans Chemdip that I use for all sorts of cruddy parts including my Zenith. Comes with a little parts basket inside. Seems like pretty nasty stuff but it works well. I think...

Re: Update on transmission plug

x2 Especially with the dipper tray. I've seen videos of people using a quart of kerosene to flush their perfectly fine running engine... it made me cringe.

Re: AMP Meter Reading

Like everyone else has said, a slight discharge with the lights on is nothing to worry about. I will say, based on your response #3 it does sound like you have a regulator. A normal cutout should...

Re: Update on transmission plug

As Jack says. Just fill with Kerosene and drain, maybe rock the car to slosh it if you want. I wouldn't drive it any distance without 600W in it. Also, when you say dirty what exactly do you mean?...

Re: Update on transmission plug

FWIW, Ford recommended flushing with Kerosene.

Re: Replacing only the main leaf spring with a new one?

My opinion, obviously replacing the spring outright would be better and a longer lasting fix. Changing just the bottom leaf still leaves you with 9 old leaves on top of it.

However, if...

Re: What revs at 60MPH

I like this website for calculating RPMs and speed at a given RPM. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Like others, I don't think I'd want to cruise at 60 for many reasons. I did see if my...

Re: Spark Plugs

I've never had a problem with the Motorcraft TT10s they're cheap and run well. Never fouled one.

Re: Perch Pin Play...

Not sure of your location but if you want a good used axle, Bert's in Denver should have you covered. I wouldn't want to use any axle with any sort of play in the spring perch holes.

Re: Water pump... Just grease or something else?

I thought the special thing about water pump grease is that it WOULD melt if it got into the cooling system? I could be wrong, can't remember where I heard that.

Re: motor break in

In short, no. The distributor hole is sealed by the head gasket, all of the oil will end up in the valve chamber.

I'd say you have more odds of getting oil on top of the pistons if you have the...

Re: Number 8 Exhaust Valve sticking

Lacquer thinner is great at dissolving stuff so might be worth a shot. Definitely worth trying that before taking stuff apart. MMO usually seems to do the trick for most people but maybe you have...

FWIW, I tried these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N1JQJZZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Re: 6V versus 12V (stupid ques. I'm a newbie)

Agree with those that say keep it 6v at least for now. It's your car and you may find out you need 12v eventually for some reason.

My car is 6v with the stock generator still but I installed...

Re: Steering wheel orientation.

I believe there is another service bulletin that says if the speedometer is obstructed to move the wheel to the other key position.

Re: Drain plug

A little "percussive maintenance" should break it loose.

When in doubt, get a bigger hammer. And if that doesn't work the problem is electrical :D

Re: Hi compression head and stock ignition

Agreed. I have the 5.5 head but I can't see the 6:1 being any different. Just remember you won't have to pull the spark lever down as much. I only go to about 10 o'clock, maybe 9:30.
