Re: Remove sludge from bottom of gas tank

Let me emphasize Ronn's directive to have the shop vac on BLOW! Full suction on a flammable vapor will turn that shop vac into a bomb. I saw this first-hand and it was a miracle that nobody was...

Re: U joint rebuild

Be careful with those C-rings! They are made of spring steel and will fight you when pressing them on. Wear eye protection in case one takes flight and grip it securely so it doesn't get away from...

Re: Loose Pitman Arm

Thanks to all that responded to my query! The sector shaft shank is fully up to the Ford dimension of 0.9375 inches and there is plenty of gap for the pinch so I am just looking at a sector arm that...

Not Model A but Model A Era

Found this today and curious what kind of car this is. The driver charged folks 10 cents for the ride and jump. Times were different then - kids were skinny and more daring.

Loose Pitman Arm

I have a reballed Pitman arm that I bought from a vendor at a swap meet (remember those?) several years ago. When I began to install it I found that it is too loose even after cranking down hard on...

Re: Why are there so many more 1930 grill shells than 1931s?

Unlike the previous models, the '31 shells were assembled from several pieces. With all of the impact and twisting that comes to bear on this part of the car, many of them simply fell apart.

Re: Your most useless NOS parts

I have an NOS cluster gear on which they failed to cut the bevels on the second gear section of the cluster. Maybe I can find somebody to take that on.

Re: Loud Noise when car decellerates while i n first and second gears

I experienced this problem with a rear axle in which the pinion bearing retainer nuts had come loose. The result was a driveshaft that was no longer fixed in place and was able to move back and forth...

Re: "The Eviscerator". Is this OT? Or Almost OT? Or Right On The Money?

Cut the bolts shorter with a hacksaw and mount them with 1/2 inch acorn nuts coated with surgical lubricant. The victim will get a high speed massage and no bleeding.

Re: Axle shims

The working life of an aluminum shim in such a critical area will be sadly short.

Re: Follow up to the "counter weight" thread.

The Model A engine produced by Ford was already reasonably balanced as produced at its 1928 - 1931 era price point. The Volkswagen bug engines produced in the many millions had no counterweights for...

Re: U joint disassembly

The bushing retainer clips are made of spring steel and can be difficult to remove. I know of no way to remove them without deforming them to the point that they cannot be used again. The old...

Re: Tractor Supply Coil

Bosch makes a 6-volt version of the blue coil that is silver (unpainted steel). It puts out 40,000 - 50,000 volts on 1.2 ohms primary resistance - vollig ausgezeichnet!

Re: What is driving an A on snow/ice like? Can you add studs to A tyres?

Does anybody remember walnut shell snow tires? Ground up walnut shells were mixed in with the rubber on the tread when the tires manufactured. We found some when cleaning out the garage back in the...

Re: Torque Tube Bolts

The Model A rear axle design was carried forward to the 1932 Model B, which had a slightly different means of retaining the pinion bearing which allowed for the gasket. The gasket sets are for 28-32...

Re: GAV needle threads... unique to this component?

Outside of the Zenith Model A or Model B carb, I have yet to come across any 1/4-24 threads. The matching tap and die sets are available, however.

Re: Fallow up on balance beads

I recall a posting that described the addition of a certain volume of antifreeze into the tube, with the same result as the use of Dynabeads. I have lost track of the posting.

Re: Steering / Tie Rod Conundrum

Well, as some surmised here, I was probably overthinking this question or
conundrum. The reality is that the rebuilt front axle is sitting in a car without the engine, transmission, or steering...
