I used a door bumper kit that included the dovetail rubbers and the copper insert sold by Snyders. It took some persistance but they fit without alteration. They were better quality than the others...

If you decide to pull the starter for testing, make sure that the interface between it and the flywheel housing have bare metal to metal contact, the all important ground factor again. Good luck,...
