Re: Where did Tom Wesenberg post go!

I was afraid it was that damned covid thing. Hope he recovers, would be an immense loss to us all if not.

Re: Third Brush Adjustment

I vote for wrong armature - short nose in a long nose. Third brush is under the gnarl of whatever below the other slot. Ground brush he's trying to move has stranded wire to ground.

Re: Horn repair and worn commutator

Push the horn button and work it back and forth under pressure. The contacts do get dirty.

Re: My 1st Model A (non Hotrod) - Starting....

You have a dropping resistor on a 6V coil. Could be open. Forget the resistor and use a 12V coil.

Re: Ignition Cable

About 2 years now, Snyder's I think. It is a stiff bend, probably why it won't turn into the firewall easily.

I think he means disconnect inside and pull cable through the firewall. Easier to...

Re: Ignition Cable

What I don't like about the shorter cable is that it doesn't arc through the firewall properly after being clamped - points almost straight up. Wish i'd bought the longer cable, but I extended the...

Re: Mounting headlight bulbs

Snyder recommends alternator for halogen bulbs. I don't know why; 25 watts is about the same as 32 CP. You are probably correct that the geometry is wrong. But your concentric reflectors make it...

Re: Positive Ground

Conventional current positive to negative.
Electron flow negative to positive.
Go figure.

Re: Generator cutout

Seems to me to be open field connection. Insulate third brush from armature and check resistance to ground = ~1.5 ohms. Could be bad ground connection to case at other end or splice between...

Re: Turn Signal Flasher 12V

Novita has been making e-flashers for several years, but only 12V. Little market for 6V positive ground. Tridon has one of the same number.

Re: Generator cutout

Could be as simple as worn out brushes.

Re: Generator cutout

You're running on battery only. 0 amps where the coil is connected to the battery side of the meter, battery supplying 10 amps to the lights.

Cutout won't close with only 2 V, generator won't...

Re: Generator cutout

Only 2V output indicates a faulty generator. May be bad connection but more likely I think burned field windings. I doubt it will motor.

Re: Electrical Problems

Clean the connection of the battery strap to ground. The current has to travel through the frame, engine mounts, etc to get to the starter. That's why some add a battery cable between ground post...

Re: Mounting headlight bulbs

"Focus" is achieved when all light rays are reflected forward in parallel. This means the pattern on the wall will be 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter, same as the reflector rim, at any distance. ...

Re: Wiring harness question

Use the harness for "with cowl lamps". It is for cars with single bulb headlights and has a pigtail for connecting the cowl lamp harness. If you have no cowl lamps just let the pigtail hang.

Re: How to connect instrument panel light?

Apparently the PO wanted the instruments to be lighted with the low beam headlights (red/black wire). It would make more sense in this case to connect them to the taillights (black wire) so they...

Re: How to connect instrument panel light?

Ammeter should read only battery current. Same reason ignition coil was moved to the generator side, FSB 11/29.

Re: Stuck 1930 instrument light

I think you're supposed to twist it to a point where it pulls off easily, but I've never found it. I just yank the sucker off and hope for the best. It still works.

Re: Mounting headlight bulbs

To answer your original question, the first bulb appears to be 21/21 CP, in which case orientation doesn't matter. The other I would guess is 50/32 CP. You should match your headlight bulbs.

Re: Mounting headlight bulbs

1928 H-type used 21/3 CP bulbs. The brighter filament is centered on the bulb axis, the 3 CP filament is offset 1/8" above center. The socket is centered in the early reflector.

The later...

Bottom. Spacers hold upper cap tight to the frame, lower cap rides on the springs.

Re: Generator charging revisited

Should take longer than 30 sec for damage. But the field coil wasn't happy about it nonetheless.

If you're trying to check generator voltage out, probe as close to the battery as you can get. ...
