A picture of the outside of the grille will generally not tell you anything but the backside will show how pieces were welded and attached together to make the assembly.

Seem to recall that a number of years ago a conversion kit supplier offered a master cylinder with outlets on both sides to allow easier fitting of outlet tubes.
The unused ones were plugged....

The inners should be OK
The outer ones are a different story.
They each serve a different function.
The upper one corrects camber by moving in and out on an eccentric.

The lower one adjusts...

Running an Edelbrock 1403 (500 cfm) with crossover linkage to orient the carb the way I want it.

Did make an adapter once for a 350 Holley and determined it to be a waste of time.
Now I just run a 4 barrel carb on a 4 barrel manifold.
The carb functions (in my case) as a 2 barrel carb at...

The one on the right is '49 early'50 that used a push pedal linkage.
The one on the left with pull linkage used in late '50 on up....

There should be no need to remove door panels unless parts have fallen inside.
Remove the fasteners holding the bezel to the door.
There is a washer with a square hole that slides on to the handle...

The 885 will work just about as well as any 2bbl. carb. without using a load-O-matic distributor by just plugging the vacuum port. just looks a little different.

The standard shift gear is appox 1.550 dia.
The automatic is appox 1.150 dia.
The drive will NOT interchange as the dia's are different as well as the gear tooth size.

Most likely a '70's dual master cylinder will have two different dia's to differentiate where the front and rear lines go.
Check with a dealer for which ever brand the master is used on.
Doubt if...

And if you clean all the connections, I have had good luck lightly coating the connections with dielectric grease before reassembly to help keep future corrosion from forming.
