Re: Q: 34 Diff: torque on housing/ pinion preload etc.

Housing I'd shoot for 35lbs. Don't try it unless genuine Ford bolts. Same for the torque tube to the diff housing. The pinion is a tricky one, the two nuts need to be wrung together very tightly,...

Re: 1938-41 ford pickup chain for tailgate assy diagram

There was a thread just recently showing some pics for this, that is if it is the same as a 40/41.

Re: Spring spreader for reversed eyes

I like it. Having it split across two pushers saves having to come up with a massively strong part to straddle the rear end housing.

Re: Bring a Trailer

The car looks really nice. Hope the sale goes well for you.

I have to ask, though. A 1937 239? there might be a typo in either the year or cu in, unless the 221 has been bored over. A mistake...

Re: HELP what fender is this???

My 41 pickup fenders are different. The holes are round. I can't say what it is, but I can say it isn't 40/41 Ford pickup, or 46 up either because the holes are round in those too.

It does look...

Re: Long live the early Flat Top 6!

Take the old one to a bearing supply place. They will measure it and sell you the equivalent. If you don't have an old one take a longer one, cut it and superglue it together so it fits and the...

Re: options for electronic ignition conversion on my '41

Buy another condenser now, make sure it and the one you have just bought both work, and put one in the glove box as a spare. also carry the tools required to change it.

Re: Help with Engine dating

It is interesting that the number stamped on the top face, although it means nothing to me, it appears to use the distinctive Ford number stamps.

Re: 59A Flat head

No.

The transmission will foul the area where the starter sticks through. The clutch release shaft is positioned slightly differently too.

Re: Laser Cleaner On Frame

There's a dropdown for either 100W or 1000W the 100W is $88 the 1000W is $238. I never even heard of this tool before now. It looks very effective in the video.

The full video on youtube describes...

It's a thermostat and there should be on on both sides.

Re: Buzzer for Signal Lights

I have buzzers on all my V8s. I used the 3 pin flasher units and wired the buzzer to the terminal marked P for Panel. That is normally the light on the dash that shows when the flashers are on.

Re: Calling all Transmission Gurus

Bob, you don't install the cluster after.

You half install it.

You place it in the case, ready to go but don't fit the shaft. You then get the other gears in place and finally lift the cluster...

Re: First Flathead Build

What did we say? Don't use an extractor!

Now the machine shop will have to get the stud and half an extractor out.

Unless you got lucky and it came out.

Good luck with the rest of it.

Re: Calling all Transmission Gurus

Go on an Early Ford forum, call the transmission a POS. Ask for help.

Good ploy.

Not.

It's a completely conventional 3 speed transmission with nothing unusual about it. What are you seeing...

Re: 41 ford pickup question.

Thanks for that, L. Glad you found the video worthwhile. Thing is, this truck was only imported in 2017 so my location is not a factor.

I am still curious if a not very glossy (don't want to say...

Re: 1940 ford pickup tailgate chain install

Ah. so the ARE springs, then, Mike. Are they just a safety device, to stop accidental unlatching of the hook, or is there some sort of anti-rattle function?

41 ford pickup question.

I took off the passenger (right) rear fender today and underneath, on the bed side is an olive green colour, not very glossy. I'm going to say this is an earlier 41 as it does not have the deep drop...

Re: 1940 ford pickup tailgate chain install

I took a bit of video showing the chains, here are some stills from it as I haven't published it.

The truck is parked right by the back door, if you want any more let me know.

No springs on...

Re: Request for assistance on 1933 Ford Fordor specticiations

I wonder if there is a model kit you can purchase that you could then scale up for your wooden version??

You'd have to look. The fordor is the less desirable option (in commonly accepted...

Re: First Flathead Build

You should be able to get to the cam bolts with a small offset ring spanner. Don't know what it would be called there in the usa. Like said above, make sure you've knocked the tabs back first.
