Re: 59AB sonic test. Good or bad?

Yes,,,,,like B&S said ,
Major thrust direction,,and minor thrust direction,,,,,matters .

Re: head gasket sealant yes or no

That is a beautiful gasket .
All the holes that get near fluid already have a seal ring around them .
And the bores have a fire ring .
Extra sealer is not required,,,,but,,,do whatever makes you...

Re: V8 piston rings

The wigley piece is just an expander,,,,the thin flat rings are what cleans the oil off the cylinder wall .
They wear,,,the expander doesn’t .
You should be good if you need to reuse one .

Re: Fitting Sump

Okay,,,the graphite seal was what I wanted to use,,,,I have been reading that it is a better seal .
But,,,,the graphite seal does need to be trimmed to the correct length .
And use no sealer...

Re: Fitting Sump

Ronnie ,
You are saying you trim the gasket to fit around the rear main seal,,,,,like a half moon pie cut shape ?

And,,,,you leave the rope seal long,,,,to help compress and make a better seal ?...

Re: Oil pump pressure test

I’ve always admired Ronnie and these other guys that build the truly bad Flatheads .
I’m certain it takes knowledge that I will never have .
These guys engines have clearances,,and performance...

Re: Uneven Head Dome Sizes

You might consider using a depth mic on the valve pockets and see if the settings are close .
There is a possibility that the original chambers were mis machined above the piston .
After...

Re: Are the 3rd and 4th piston rings backward?

I agree with Denny on the bottom ring on new pistons .

But,,,I’m not sure about original Ford pistons .
The old stock pistons were not cam ground like a modern piston .
I believe the fourth...

Re: Building a 255 from a 221 block, help needed.

I might be wrong,,,,but I think I remember Bruce Lancaster saying the main bearings are crankshaft sensitive .
The block doesn’t matter bearing wise .
The front and middle mains are the same,,,,the...

Re: 52 Flathead crankshaft end play

I suspect the flywheel ring gear is causing your wear pattern.
If the crank was moving in that much I believe the rods would get bound up while it was running.
That looks like a fair amount of a...

Re: old or new motor

If it is currently running with no issues,,,,I would not suspect any kind of a block issue .

Gary was...
