Re: 33 Rear Main Leak

Ken, glad you mentioned this. Case in point, one of my '33/34 buddies', had a situation of LARGE amounts of oil coming out the rear. Like a quart in less than 50 miles. The reason... the babbitt had...

Re: 1935 torque tube

With respect, and in contrast to supereal, my driveshaft guy doesn't make much of a deal of it. He has the big lathe, balancer, and does this all the time. I'm pretty sure there is enough 'straight'...

Re: 47 generator rear bushing

I'm still curious about the belt adjustment. As mentioned by Koates/Kevin, the belt adjustment should be quite loose, compared to modern belts/cars. I've made the same mistake, myself, prior to...

Re: 47 generator rear bushing

Yes, bushings can be changed. Sometimes it's easier to find a swap meet generator that still has a decent end plate. In the past, I've been able to find old generators for 5 bucks, or one time, two...

Re: '33 tire cover outer band

Hello to southern france. As you might remember, my 33 (identified by David R. as VERY late 33, with some 34 features, and a Canadian built RHD) was originally green.
Since the green on my car did...

Re: RH drive speedo

I'm puzzled... Over here, just go to a speedo shop, they make whatever you want, any length. Not the same there?

Re: advance curves

For whatever it's worth.. I'm another one with 'too much, too fast'. My stock 47/59A/crab gave excessive ping, and I eventually had to replace three pistons due to damage. I understand the reason to...

Re: Cam Degreeing/Checking Important

Bottom line of this discussion... I can no longer build engines. (After 65 years of not attending to these details.)
Great read, by the way.

Re: Hershey on the West Coast

I'm with Charlie on this. But note... There's Pomona, then there's Pomona on Father's Day weekend. The two are not the same. So, my recommendation is to consider Pomona on Father's Day weekend. For...

Re: Spark plug insert came out with the plug

I've used the KD brand thread inserts. And, yes, the ones I've experienced, all come out with the plug. In the distant past, I've been able to get KD inserts.

Re: 8ba rod bearing problem

For the young guys... I worked in a small, independent shop in the 50's. At least where I was, it was VERY common to grind a crank in the car (or pickup). We had one customer that ran a small fleet...

Re: #4 Piston Removal

I'm with Ron. VERY unusual for a wrist pin to be loose, if it was ever 'right' in the first place.

Re: Front Wheel Cylinders

On my 47, I found that someone had previously installed new, earlier 1-1/4 cylinders. I changed back to 1-3/8 on my 47. So, I have 'near-new' 1-1/4 cylinders, which I will offer free. Of course, if...

Re: Question about "The Green Bible" manual

I've got an original 'Green Bible', which I've had since the 1950's. It's marked November 1950 on the cover, and indeed, it has 802 pages. I've used mine extensively, and it's falling apart. I'm...

Re: Grand Cherokee rear to 1935

I'm gonna make a guess... My 03 GC is a 6 cyl, and does NOT have a D44. Perhaps it's V8 GC's that have the Dana 44 ?? Or maybe it's MODEL related. Mine is a Laredo.
And, to Anthony, above, My GC...

Re: Grand Cherokee rear to 1935

I've got a 03 GC, and it does NOT have a 44. I wish it did. And, whatever rear I have, is 3.73. I live in the mountains, and 3.73 (with OD) works good for me.
Seems to me that an Exploder rear would...

Re: 34 front engine mount /water outlet

Charlie's repair is GOOD.
I also have a pair that are available. Some rust-out on ends, but still usable. They have the part # cast on.

Re: About half Model A related

In days long gone by, the shop where I bought my tires habitually changed the tires WITHOUT removing the wheel from the vehicle. This was in the 1950's, and the tire size was 6:00-16. With tubes....

Re: Is this an ok radiator?

I don't see that anyone has posted issues with electrolysis... I was losing radiators at the rate of about one per year in a 96 Bronco. Except towards the end of my aluminum experience, when the rate...

Re: Mallory distributor

I probably qualify as 'old', and in many ways 'cheap'. But, in this case, cheap has nothing to do with it.

Re: Which pressure plate to order?

If it's a 48, then WHICH 48? If it came from a car, it would be a 59-type. If it came from a pickup, it would be an 8BA. Check 8BA clutch stuff. I think you will find a 9-1/2.
If it's 48 car,...

Re: Need a Mechanic. SoCal.

Used to be, Jon Roberts, Irwindale off-ramp, 210 fwy. I think the business name is Roberts Auto Sales, or something similar. 'Course, Richard at Early V8 Garage is also a source.

Re: Optima battery support bracket/carrier for a '34

I made a carrier that is a duplicate of the original, except made a hair taller for the Optima. No pictures, but be assured, it looks like original except for the height dimension. Are you willing to...

Re: 34 ford top seal

For whatever it's worth... I used small screws, just as you have mentioned. It's been awhile, and I'm not sure, but I think I used 4-40, and ran a tap into the gutter below to accommodate them. As I...
