When you have tried the electric and filled up the oil, if needed, you might want to check the pressure in it.
Volvo-guys told me, and I had to shim up my valve spring in my 221...

Another way to go is to use a Volvo M40 gearbox out of a PV 544, 121/122/221/222 Amazon or 142/144/ early 242. Don't know how easy they are to find "overthere" but here in Scandinavia they are...
