Would be better if you could lower the mechanical fan assembly to center of radiator.
Is your radiator straight or slanted?

56markII: You will have better luck if you find another ^V KS sending unit from another car and fine tuning it to work with your stock gauge. As has been pointed out in many threads, KS gauges...

tubman: Could it be that the little tab on the washer shown above is bent so as to provide needed compression? Notice the downward indent on the tab which is suppose to hold the washer in place....

Suggest you upgrade before these pulleys are no longer manufactured due to lack of demand as the old car market changes. Plus , remember 70 years of flexing can cause old steel fan blades to crack...

Here's a thread dealing with this that you must read. As a side note, I made my own fan hub pulley in 1999 before DRAKE came out with his version. I would recommend replacing the old with the new...

Split lock washers don't seem like a good idea for this application.
Imagine what would happen if a lock washer breaks and bolt starts to loosen.

Advertise it on Fordbarn, HAMB. It will sell. Shipping will probably cost more than the part but, if someone needs it, it's worth the price. Any 49-51 Merc sheet metal is valuable and rare.
