Non-detergent multi grade oil was not available in the 30s. Sludge filth settled out and also adhered to the surfaces of the oil...

1st check your sediment bowl screen, you said you replaced the bowl, but did not mention replacing or cleaning the screen.


Run/test without the screen the car. If runs OK replace the screen,...

Just remembered, had some odd problems. Distributor points did not ground properly even though it looked good with an ohmmeter. Cleaned up the distributor cable sheath to head stud clamp...

Perhaps hang a small tank from the radiator support rod and run a line straight into the carb.


If it runs OK then you would know it is fuel supply issue.


If it does not help possible carb,...

Also, incase you do not know, a couple of the water pump studs are not blind and the holes go all the way through into the water passages, sealing these with Permatex #2 is required.

Sometimes a radiator cap is inadvertently put on as a gas cap, a radiator cap is not vented.

The graphtite and copper are good choices. Not sure why a previous poster said not to use copper. Graphtite gasket is a pain to remove if having to pull the head in the future, a lot of difficult...

Do a search on head gaskets - more than a few people have had problems with teh modern silconed head gasket.
