Re: 34 pickup steering column mount

Decided to hold off for a little while. The son of the guy I bought the truck from just found a complete steering column in a storage container at his dad's place.(Dad died shortly after I bought...

34 pickup steering column mount

Is there a spacer that is supposed to be between the column and the dash? I have about a 2"gap. Guess I could loosen the steering box and see if the whole thing would rotate enough to fit.
Thanks....

Re: Disc brake question

I remember a similar problem, years ago, solved by bleeding the brakes. Seems a little air in the system heated up and expanded as the brakes were used and locked them up. Moved fine when they...

Way off topic--Selden Truck

In 1922, my grandfather was a dealer for Selden trucks in Hartford, CT. Does anyone have a picture of a Selden truck? I've never seen one.

34 pickup door gaskets?

Were there door gaskets around the doors on the 34 pickup? I'm thinking the large soft rubber type that would prevent water from blowing into the crack between the door and body. Also, was there a...

Re: ***Need help on BRAKES - 53 Merc Monterey***

Many years ago when I worked in a front-end shop, we would occasionally have a problem with a new brake job pulling right or left. What we would do is to swap the parts in the left side with the...

Re: 34 pickup oil question and ignition resistor

Thank you thank you all. The wiring diagrams and pics of the resistor board are most helpful. There is a board like that in a box of parts, but it is broken. I can deal with that. Can you tell...

Re: 34 pickup oil question and ignition resistor

Thanks David. I noted the u-joint info also. Say what?? Never heard of that stuff. What is it? Can it be purchased? Can we use regular moly grease?

34 pickup oil question and ignition resistor

I have a 34 pickup with a 21 stud engine that I think is original to the truck although it has a factory rebuilt tag on it. When I got the truck, it didn't have a dipstick in the oil pan. I'm...

Re: 34 pickup front frame mount

No,no doors, yet. Found the problem. When I reconstructed the front cab corners (completely gone at the bottom) I left the folded under part too long and it was hitting the frame. Two minutes with...

Re: 34 pickup front frame mount

Well, I must have done something really wrong. I have a 1-1/2 inch gap to fill between the tab and the frame. Guess I'll try tightening up the other mounting bolts and see if the cab pulls down on...

34 pickup front frame mount

I never seem to be smart enough to take before pictures. I'm in trouble again as a result. I am reinstalling the cab to the frame. All 6 wood blocks are ok to use and I have them in place, I...

Re: 34 pickup wood question

That makes a lot of sense, David. I like the idea of white oak as a substrate, since it holds up so well when wet. BTW I suspect there was a lot more wood available then than today. Some of that...

Re: 34 pickup wood question

Thanks for the answers. The wood under the bed doesn't look, at all, like oak. Perhaps it was changed before. The existing wood under the bed is closed grain not open like oak or ash. I need to...

34 pickup wood question

Do you know what species of wood was used for the support blocks for the cab and also the wood in the bed? Looks sort of like maple but I think that might rot easily.

Re: 34 pickup cab assembly question

Thank you, all, for your quick reply. Friction tape is not a problem. Guess I'll figure out the cab back.

34 pickup cab assembly question

What material was used between the cab body and the roof? It appeared to be a fabric with some sort of sticky material on it, but I could not identify just what it was. Also, is there a good source...

Re: 1934 Radiator

I just had one re-cored at a local, long in business, radiator shop. Prolly not exactly original, but works fine and looks good. About $900.

Re: Wiring question

I remember, as a young guy, that we would turn on the headlights and then try to crank the engine with the starter. If the headlights went out, the battery was discharged/or bad.

Re: Changing king pins and bushings

When using the upper tool, I found that, to my surprise, if you load it up (tighten the screw) and let it sit for a minute or two, it suddenly pops loose. No need to tighten more and more til it...

Re: Balancing brake drums

Many years ago I worked in a large tire shop. We always balanced front tires with the brake drums attached on a floor mounted spin balancer. As a bonus, the customer also had his/her wheel bearings...
